Yep. A good site. ^_^ I think they are the only company who sells directly for Marutake Sangyo. Awesome pieces.
(Edit: I stand corrected. They are one of a couple who sell direct from Marutake Sangyo, but seem to be the only official "Licensed International Distributor"...or something like that.)

Possibly due to set prices and not fluctuating with the currency exchange rate? Looks like Nishijin for bargain, Sword-Store for selection.

For those prices you can buy a real antique set of samurai armor! and for way less you can get a vintage replica set. Frankly, while I would love to sport some nice vintage yoroi, I'd go new made, too...even with the price difference. There are three kinds who would buy Japanese armor. Collectors/historians Martial artists Anime and samurai movie lovers/cosplayers Two of the three like to wear them, and I personally wouldn't be wearing antiques. I think that's why these sites are so nice. Sure, you won't find the same deals like you would antique-hunting, but you also don't have to be quite AS gentle with them. (Edit) Also, I forgot. There's no way I'd fit in antique yoroi.

Yeah, it's one thing if you want to set 'em up and go on about how cool they are, it's yet another if you want to put it on. In my case, if I'm buying armor, it's to wear it. Thus, I'd have to get it fit to me, anyway, so antique would be worthless to me, new would be the only way. Granted...I'd just as soon buy a car as spend this kind of money on what is ultimately a novelty. I don't re-enact, I don't study/train/practice and even if I did it wouldn't be in full armor so why bother? Though the previously-mentioned $22k would get me a nice set of blades...

Your right about antique, its not for wearing...but vintage replica is just a used modern armor....at a fraction of the new price, and way better construction, the metal is thicker and the fabric is nicer than the brand new ones...the ones from the 1940s to the 1970s were made really well and dont have that brand new look.

Also, as far as I know, Marutake Sangyo's been around since the sixties. Wouldn't that make it the same armor you're talking about, simply new? Not trying to argue, just trying to understand. As far as that brand new look vs. vintage look...even some samurai wore brand new armor. For me, I'll go for a vintage/antique look when I want something that seems like it would work well aged...but if I'm getting something for my own personal use, I want it made for me. If I want it made for me, I want it to look new. Exceptions will always be there, of course. It's all a matter of taste.

If you have the money for a new one or like the look or need a custom fit etc, there is nothing wrong with new....but for someone on a budget........you can get a really good vintage set of armor for a decent price if you look around....thats all I ment.....and in most cases the older armors were better quality than what you find today. cgi.ebay.com/SAMURAI-Yoroi-armor-full-set-Japanese_W0QQitemZ350317765816QQihZ022QQcategoryZ162969QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3286.m7QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D4%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D7959596881557533755#ht_1746wt_754

Better pricing, yeah. I can see that. Like buying a new car and driving it home, you can't turn around and sell it for a high price. I agree there.
The part I'm not sure about is the "Older ones are of better quality" bit. I imagine yoroi from, say, the beginning of the Momoyama period being made specifically to take a beating as opposed to modern Hanwei pieces...but Marutake Sangyo keeps coming up getting compared to itself. That ebay listing is also one of theirs.

i saw the pricing and yes it is cheaper but when you take a look at the shipping cost of both nishijin or samurai store and ebay you can say it is pretty much the same pricing in overall (only for the cheapest priced yoroi though)

That ebay listing is also one of theirs. I have some antique armors and some vintage replica armors myself and I can see a lot of difference between the quality of the older replica armors and the new replicas....the metal is a lot thicker on the older ones I have see for one thing and little things like the quality of the fabric and the general construction is of a higher quality...but there is usually some age related wear on the older armors so there is a trade off....I have seen some modern replica armor that has plastic used in some parts....the problem when you buy any armor from Japan is the return expense if high..if its old or new...you need a lot of detailed pictures. here is a quote for the owner of Toraba.com he is one of the leading experts in the world on japanese armor "Marutake and others use to make some good stuff, but recently the materials, workmanship and quality have really fallen off as they try to save money and cut corners and costs. What you see in pictures these days is not living up to the what you get anymore. Your better to get an older used replica in good order and can save a lot of money doing so." Just like everything else made today I guess.

Their Kato Kiyomasa armor... may be the most awesome yoroi I have ever seen. I wonder how difficult it would be to fight in that kabuto.
