They are all from the Edo period, most pieces are from the 1800s, armored Japanese clothing is something I have been studying, not much research has been done on the subject, in fact a lot of books and articles on Japanese armor deny that the Japanese used chain mail except as an addition to traditional armor and not as armor on its own.

It was always my understanding that mail was used both in conjunction with more complete armor, as parts of the complete armor, or as light armor in and of itself...though the latter was, of course, an Edo period thing only. At least, as far as I know.
Things like mail sandwiched in tekko and such.

Sparky, glad I could provide some interesting pictures, its a very interesting subject, at least to me. For people who enjoy antique chain mail the Japanese style is a relatively unexplored subject.
