As much of a Star Wars geek as I am, I recognize those 'forms' as being loosely based upon real martial arts, adapted to a fantasy setting... to retroactively try to 'learn' them in real life... that's just... silly. You should really tell those people that if they want to be Dooku or Maul, they should take up fencing or kung-fu from a real school... that's where it all started, after all.

Keep your mother behind your teeth? There's an Italian phrase I've not heard. M. Haha, it was supposed to be, "keep the tongue behind the teeth"

Chennes, I'm not debating the merits of the "Fighting Styles" behind the weapons, just the value of the weapons themselves as training tools. I've weighted my blade to handle like a longer hilted longsword, and minus the guard, it works okay as a fun training tool for that every once and a while. What I'm saying is, I think they can be viewed and reviewed in exactly the same way that we would a Wushu blade. Pretty, and looks cool when spun excessively fast, but not for actual use. And just like a well balanced Wushu blade can be lauded for its durability and visual appeal, so too can we rate Sabers the same. They're fun, not functional, and they're not meant to be. But it doesn't mean we can't pass on our thoughts on which ones handle well.

Hey Crockett, I don't see a problem with it being in the fantasy section. Heck, what's more fantasy sword than a lightsaber? By the way Anders, here's a bloodberry I made for a friend of mine a year or so ago

BB, That is sick! I loved that game ever so much for the sheer ridiculousness of it. Nice to see light-up replica!

Thanks Bryn I've never actually played the game myself Hey M, That's the same basic reaction I had. A friend asks me,"can you make me a Bloodberry?" And I say,"sure...what's a bloodberry?" It's a lightsaber like device from a video game. I made that one by using the guts of a regular lightsaber and making new external components. Most of it is aluminum though some details are high density foam. The little arms on the sides (cross guard?) fold in and out and the power switch is rewired to a large thumb switch. Here's the reference pic-

I'm looking at this 'Bloodberry' thing and I can't picture how its ment to be used... it just looks awkward. As for Lightsabers... call me a epic geek, but I am a fan. In a short while I'll need to figure out how to make durable lightsaber hilts that can have removable sparring 'blades' put in them. A friend of mine wishes to make a Star Wars Fan Film... and he wants me to do a part in it. We need to make something we can really go at it with for the fight scenes... then rotoscope the effects in over the 'blade' later.

Thanks Lunaman Hey shadowhowler, If I recall, the bloodberry thing was able to collapse (I think in the game the rod along the blade telescopes) and fits on the guys belt when not in use. I imagine that it's like a mirror to reflect the laser or the other end of the electrode if it's some kind of plasma sword thingy.

Well, it would combine two of my main hobbies I am a member over here: www.fx-sabers.com/forum/index.phpGreat resource. Its like shadowhowler said, if you're using the heavy dueling blades, these things are essentially like wooden training swords. That light up. And are sweet. lol I will admit I own three such sabers. I've owned several more during my time but sold them off at some point or another. I have a Force fx version of Luke Skywalker's saber from Return of the Jedi. It has been 'converted', which has nothing to do with religion but everything to do with a high powered LED (seoul p4 green) being firmly placed into the hilt. You get the lights and sound and can beat the everylovin' crap out of another saber without worry. Also have a Luke "A New Hope" regular old force fx. For you non-dorks, yes, Luke uses different styles of sabers in each film. This is his BLUE one. I want to get it converted as I have dueled with it and busted a couple LEDs, but the conversions aren't really cheap. I also own an Ultrasaber's stunt (read- no sound) saber, the 'bellicose' model they used to offer. It is made from TCSS parts and looks pretty rad. It has a 'sun rider's destiny' colored blade, which is basically like an ice- blue....amazing color, seriously. They are a lot of fun to play with in the back yard at night. They look EXACTLY like the sabers in the films, they are that bright. So, I would say, sure, lets review them like training weapons. You do, after all, use them to sword fight don't you? If you train with a heavy blade saber, learning to dodge and parry and avoid strikes etc, I would wager those skills would help you in an actual sword fight, sure. So I say, let them eat cake! Or...play with sabers.. If you all like, I could review the Bellicose with pictures to kick it off..

embrace your inner-child (nerd)! I'd be a bitter, bitter man if I didn't do this on a regular basis. Love the FX darth maul saber (get 2 and they can be attached, etc).

Heh. Thanks, Bryn. ;D One of the best things I've found on youtube in ages. I watched the entire 7 parts yesterday and could not stop laughing.

Just watched them all too. Hilarious. Absolutely hated the Prequels. Watching that pretty much made my pretty-lame-day.

I wanted to get a new blade first, so it'll look better lit up. The one I have is pretty well trashed to all hell, lol. Good clean fun.
But should be here on the 26th according to UPS, then I'll hopefully get something put together. I have a week off coming up so I'll finally have some time!
