I read the review on the main SBG site, but I was wondering if anybody else owns one. I saw that there was a problem with the pommel, but that would be easily fixed., unless CS has already adressed the problem them selves.

I own one. The problem with the pommel is that the screw portion of the tang after the handle is particularely short. Which makes the pommel very easy to unscrew by accident. Fortunatly the handle is pinned into the tang which negates any chances to get an helicopter of death incident. The rest of the sword is pretty well made, its rock solid, sharp and the finish is ok. If you dont look for anything historicly perfect at this price its a good buy !

thanks. not really into historical accuracy as much as well built sword. there is a way to handle the thread problem too if that is the worst. i might look into one of these later.

Add some Loctite to it, and it won't come off. Blue will make it solid - yet still removable with effort, Red will make it damn near impossible to remove. I did my CS Horseman's Sword with the Blue and it still has not loosened on its own. - even though it's only secured about a 1/4" of threads.
I think you should go with the Blue myself, just in case you wish to disassemble it later.

I think the problem with the lock nut would be that you'd be taking up the 1/8th of an inch for the lock nut giving even fewer threads for the nut to fasten to. Yeah, lock tight rocks.
As far as the Gross Messer, I thought the problem with the pommel had been fixed since the SBG review. Not entirely certain, but I remember that a major flaw was fixed and I thought the pommel thing was the only flaw.
Had I not gotten laid off, I would own one right now. I plan on making it my "I got a new job" present.

Thanks for asking this question, Sirtre. The Grosse Messer is high on my "wanted" list, and I've wondered the same thing.

The problem with the Knetch is the 800 $ over what i would pay for it that Albion charge... But it looks fantastic. The temper on my CSGM seems fine, it got trough massive targets without dulling or taking a set. But CS hasnt a good reputation at QC, maybe i got lucky.
