I was looking at the MRL/Windlass Great Ouse River Sword: www.museumreplicas.com/p-689-great-ouse-river-sword.aspxI'm interested in hearing from anyone who either owns one, or has at least handled one. Is the blade sufficently stiff enough for thrusting? Is there enough blade presence to perform some cuts as well? And how is the overall balance & handling? I'm wondering how well it would compare to the DSA Gothic Sword...

If Kult of Athena's measurements are correct, then the blade is probably a bit to thin for it's length. I'm assuming that a historical sword like that would have started out around 6-8 mm thick at the base and had a lot of distal taper. A lot of the time Windlass starts their sword blades a bit thin and doesn't give them much distal taper, which is probably what causes their 'whippy" blades, and this is probably no exception. I like the look of these later Medieval thrusting swords though, and I think it would make a great display piece. If you don't mind a bit whippy blade, then it'd probably be a good cutting sword, to. (Of course I could be wrong, I've never seen this sword myself.)
