As long as you are careful placing the sword in the hanger, I don't think it should be a problem.

Nahhh, it won't hurt it. But, if you'd like to be sure you can always glue and wrap a little felt around the hanger.

Like I said in the other thread I use these, none of my swords have brass fittings, so I don't know haw it would affect brass, but If you are concerned you could do what Avery suggests. I certainly have not had any problems so far, though I think you need to be a little careful when putting your swords up and taking them down.

Yeah, I saw that from KOA. They are a bit different, although they're still more or less the same thing. I was either going to get those from KOA, or these: www.museumreplicas.com/p-522-sword-display-plaque.aspx , which are quite overpriced, except it claims you get free shipping if you order them with a sword, which I was already probably going to do. I think these would have less chance of marring a brass guard, although they probably wouldn't be as secure, plus they're way overpriced! (I was going to get two hangers...) Edit: I suppose I'll get the hangers from KOA, since two of them are still less than one of the MRL plaques, ha! Thanks for all the posts.

If you hang a sword on the wall................ does that make it a wall hanger? ;D Sorry couldn't resist.

Yeah, which is actually one of the reasons I'd prefer to have a stand, I think wall plaques sometimes look cheap. I ended up ordering the plaques from MRL, which I kinda wish I hadn't now. They were supposed to make the shipping free, but I ended up paying $30-something for the plaques as well as the shipping! I could have ordered two better looking wood plaques from KOA, paid shipping on that and it still would have been cheaper than my "free shipping". Grrr, that's what I get for not buying from KOA.

Some craft stores carry unfinished wooden plaques for $4-$5 if you have just a little bit of crafting skill (and preferably a drill press) you could make your own.
Get a plain wood plaque and a length of 1/4 inch brass rod and a ring hanger. Mark the location of two peg holes on the plaque a bit wider than your blade.
1. Lay the plaque flat on the drill press table, or just on the table if you don't have a press. 2. Then put a wooden ruler, or any other thin, flat object under the top side of the plaque so that it is lying at a slight angle. Drill your two holes straight down. Because the plaque isn't flat, the holes will be at an angle. 3. Stain or paint the plaque. 4. Attach the hanger to the back of the plaque. 5. Cut two pieces of brass rod to your desired length, round off the ends, and glue them into the holes. 6. Hang up your plaque and sword!
If you want to get fancy, you can route out the back of the plaque where the hanger will be so that the plaque sits flush against the wall. You can also put designs on your plaque by wood burning or decoupage.
If you use any of those steel hangers that clamp against the blade, I would follow Avery's advice and put little pieces of felt over the steel where it contacts the brass. Any slight edge on the steel will eventually mar the softer brass.
