if you receive a message saying that UPS tried to deliver to your home and that you need to print the following added document, to go to the post office and get your package,
do not,, i say do not try it. it is a virus. i can assure you that, once you'll have that virus,, you won't be able to get rid of it till you format your pc.
my anti-virus deleted it and windows didn't want to open after that lol
yeah i have been cought lol

Oops. Thanks for the heads-up, Marc. Sorry you had to warn from experience. Lucky me I know who's sending what at all times. If I get a notice for something I didn't order, especially via email...I just ignore it.

Thanks for the warning, Marc. I'm like Random, if I don't know who sent it I don't open it. And thanks for the sword.

I just deleted a suspicious bulk e-mail from,'ups' that had an attachment. Could have been trouble. Thanks for the warning. I delete everything I get unless I have been expecting something.

I received one claiming to be from DHL, my anti-virus program (AVG) quarantined the attachment and warned me that it was a virus.
I hope you are able to recover from the attack without any permanent loss of data.

Can I piggy back a question on this tread?
What do most people consider to be the best anti virus protection?
The reason for this question is that at the beginning of this year my computer got attacked. It slammed through my Norton protection like it wasn't even there, needless to say I'm going to be in the market for a new A.V.P.
It's not to far off topic. ;D

Trend Micro. Kind of expensive because you have to re-up every year, but I never got a virus with it. Also, consider using a web-based e-mail provider such as mail.com. They will sift through 99% of the mail propogated viruses and eliminate them before it even gets to you.

I dont know much about trend micro except that it came with my ps3 web browser for some reason, but I am aware of Norton and its failures. Ive heard much the same about mcafee and avast (although avast seems to have more favorable opinions) But my personal recommendation would be malwarebytes. Its free and it has been able to take care of everything I have ever run into. I dont even bother with a firewall. Marc I am sorry for your loss.

I have a UPS virus problem as well. Every other day, it seems a new tracking number arrives in my email account. ;D Seriously, on the antivirus note, I use Panda Cloud: www.cloudantivirus.com/en/It's free, and it works better than anything else I have ever used - including the DoD version of Symantec they gave us for our .mil laptops. Panda Cloud combined with Malware Bytes ( www.malwarebytes.org/ ) just rocks - you have virus and spyware covered for FREE. Laithoron referred me to both, and he's an IT professional - so I've always trusted his advice. He has not steered me wrong yet.

The majority of crap that happens is the result of user error. Being careful helps a great deal.
Im on a mac so i dont really worry about any of the crap any more. I'm about to get a new one and I know its going to cost me a fair bit more than a similar specification windows based PC. I feel the cost is worth it. I haven't had a single problem as a result of malware or viruses, nor do i have to run any software, do checks or any of the like.
I have a few suggestions to make interneting easier. Use firefox(are people REALLY still using internet explorer?) and download these addons, "ABP" and "noscript".Its will cut out a lot of semprini from webpages and gives you better control of your browsing, You do need to put in a little effort.

Mac's are not immune to attack by a long shot. They are relatively few so they aren't targeted like the windows machines but it will only take one capable deviant with a desire to hunt Macs to cause a serious problem for Mac users. Many Mac users do not take adequate precautions because they think their systems security is so much more superior......it's just not as tested.
