It occurs to me that the Windlass US (and Texas) Dragoon Saber bear at least a passing resemblance to the early pipeback English P-1821 Light Cavalry Saber. . . is this just my imagination or is this Windlass's interpretation of the English sword?

Keep in mind that US military swords were generally patterned after foreign military swords. Most Civil War swords were patterned after French issue weapons. The 1833 Dragoon saber was probably based on the English 1821. So it may be the Windlass impression of the American impression of the English sword.

According to Peterson's "The American Sword", the Ames contracted 1833 is modelled on the Br M1821. Although this sword was supplanted by the M1840 in the regular army, it continued in militia contracts right into the Civil War. So this is not Windlass's attempt to copy the British sword; it's a fair representation of the American Dragoon.

Has anybody bought This Windlass sword? I've been looking at it for a couple of years hoping somebody would do a review of it. I can't find any reviews of this sword. Anywhere.

As far as I know, there aren't any reviews on it yet. I almost bought one myself a little while back, but I went for Cold Steel's 1796 instead for a couple reasons.
