I want to get Han Jian for cutting purpose but I have read some warning about the hollow handle making it not suitable for such task /index.cgi?board=chineseswords&action=display&thread=4417 This old thread about discontinued VA Han jian is one example .Now the question is does it make any different if I fill up the empty space inside the handle so the tang will be more secure and has some sort of cushion to it ? Is prolong use will eventually crack the tang ? One oversea seller even not recommend this type of sword for extensive cutting . How come this type of Jian is not good for cutting ,I mean this is the Jian that unified China so it had to be combat effective ,right ? It suppose to be able to wield with one hand while warrior rided the chariot and two hand when fought on foot to slash through the bronze and copper plate armour ? How come it would be defeat by merely plastic ?

I'm pretty sure you can get a good cutter in a han jian since they were designed for combat originally. I would try Garrett at Jin-shi and you can see a review of his work and some cutting videos with one of his blades done by swordsage below

Cutting
hope this helps abit in your search for a good han jian.

Really, it's not that a Han Dynasty Jian isn't an effective weapon it's just that the old discontinued VA ones weren't up to snuff. By all accounts, Jin-Shi seems to be the best out there for a reasonable price point right now. Huanuo forge does make a Han Jian that's highly regarded by I doubt any of us have the $1200 to afford that one. If I had that much money right now, I would be giving John Lundemo the go ahead for some custom work I would love to have done. Unfortunately, I seems to have misplaced the winning lottery ticket that would be required to pay for that
