Is this sword pretty close to an original? It seems to look quite similar in overall appearance, but what about the distal taper/weight? KOA's specs chart makes it seem plausible for a sword like this, although I've never seen an original in person. I think the grip core is plastic, although if everything else is pretty similar to an original I suppose it would make up for that!

I own this Windlass. I've handled at least three period 1850's.
Understand that while the US Army governed the style and composition of their officer sword, officers were free to outsource commissions to upgrade their personal weapons. Blades and furniture varied quite a bit.
That being said these CW swords are within bounds for a decent representation. They feel good and look fairly correct. Quality is low: enlisted grade furniture.
