Hi, Pls pardon me if I'd posted this article in wrong section, as I'm quite unsure where best to post this :-p Had recently come across some reasonably nice looking (& nice priced) items on Darksword-Armory.Com, such as the one in the following links: www.darksword-armory.com/1301.htmlwww.darksword-armory.com/1306.htmlDone a search on the NET and there's surprising amt of bad remarks abt them from SwordForum guys... However, I'm looking for 2nd opinions, as their prices are really attractive.. So, has anyone bought anything from them? If you do, I'd luv to hear your frank feedback. Many thanks~

A lot of the Swordforum remarks are I think based off of mere misunderstandings, the guys at Darksword armory are not native english speakers, and originally their web site said 'carbonized steel', so the Sworforum guys weren't hesitant to jump on the bandwagon of 'they got some of the lingo wrong, they must suck!'.
That said, originally, I heard that a lot of their swords left one wanting, but that they've made progress. I've heard nothing really recent except for a review of a viking sword(also on SwordForum) the gist of which was "Super Tough, but not the best handling sword around. Great for the price." In the review, the reviewer stated that he would not hesitate to take it into a battle if he had to do so, but that he would hesitate to take an atrim or one of his other baldes because they seem more like featherweights that wouldn't last as long.
From what I've seen they appear to be a good manufacturer. Good prices, and no apparent marketing schemes. They're very upfront and specific about how their swords are made, and with what steel, and what hardness they are. Traits like this tell me that they're honest, good people, trying to sell a good product.
I've got no personal experience with their products, although they did quote me on a custom claymore design at $250, which was nice. Never had it made in the end(alas, I am poor), but their email responses were quick.
That they make very historical looking pieces that seem weighted about right(high-end of average in most cases), I'm very interested, but I'd like to see more reviews before I buy. I think their entire line is sub-$300.

I think their entire line is sub-$300. Welcome to the boards! Have a Fishy Stick!Come on Adam! Don't be so heartless in your review of us! (I'm SwordForum) It is true that we're super-elitist. If you don't get all of the terms and their spelling absolutely perfect then we tend to think you're either ignorant or slow and obviously don't deserve to even think about swords, much less be around them. Another downfall of ours is price. If it's less than a grand (USD) then it's not worth our time. We do support some beater merchants, such as Mr. Chen of Cheness Cutlery, but typically if you can't drop at least $1,000 in to buying your first sword then you aren't fit to hold one. (This is ironic because we often tell people to buy cheap to begin with incase they mess it up. I suppose $1,000 is cheap when you compare it to the price of a nihonto...) I haven't heard much about this merchant, but I agree with Adam. If they're open and up-front about their swords then they can hardly be considered sneaky. It sounds like their just honest guys trying to sell a well-made weapon. Naturally I'd be inclined to tell you to look around Paul's selection first. (Meaning his reviews here on the website) Reliks is a decent place to shop. But then again, you don't want to spend $1,000 on your first sword, so you're obviously retarded and, thus, not fit to hold a sword. (sarcasm)

Nay, I'm unable, let alone willing, to fork out a grand (USD) for a sword... unless my life depends on it in the battle field A grand in USD will be 1.5 grand for me upon currency conversion, and that's even before factoring in the Shipping Charges & our locall tax! I'd be satisfied if the item I paid for is what it said it is, and with a realistic price tag Sales rep's attitude is also important, if not utmost important, cos as international buyer, I'd hate to be kept in the dark after parting with my $$$ & not knowing when the items are shipped or stuffs like that. And of the latter, DarkSword.Com seems good cos they answered my shipping inquiry very promptly :-) Ok, let's not get too personal, or get carried away, in labelling members of any forums.. it tends to give a blanket kind of impression, and it's not helpful. Ok, let's not get too personal, or get carried away, in labelling members of any forums.. it tends to give a blanket kind of impression, and it's not helpful. I second that! ;D All the forums have their place and something to contribute to this hobby of ours, which doesn't really have enough true enthusiasts for us to be divided against each other... Anyway, before I end up hikacking the thread here, Darksword Armoury seem like stand up guys and their prices are very reasonable. I'll have to check out one of their swords one of these days, but if anyone else has one be sure to post your review!

My bad if I came across negatively. I respect most fora and didn't mean to burn swordforum. (obviously, since I'm still a member there and still post there) I was just posting my own impressions. I'd suggest everyone here to join there also and contribute. You can gain a lot of knowledge by reading their topics.
Now back to topic:

I too was merely being sardonic, I apologize if I came across too hurtful.
The basis of my statement however was still true. I just suppose I could've been nicer about how I said it.

No worries guys! ;D
Just want to make sure we don't set any precedents for 'forum bashing' - not that that was what you guys were doing really, but someone else might have grabbed the comments and things could have deteriorated quickly... (you know how these things can happen sometimes).
Cheers,
- Paul

Actually its pretty nice that we have had absolutely NO conflicts or flame wars yet . The only problem is that one lone spammer who Paul put in his place. Anyway, those swords look fantastic. I only wish I knew how functional they are...

I am particularly interested in their Katzbalger, called 'German Mercenary Sword' by DarkSword. (Actually I luv the one from Lutel, but the price tag of the one in DarkSword makes it rather attractive!). ;D

Like I said, a guy from Sword Forum bought a viking sword and was impressed.
He said it was amongst the sturdiest and strongest blades he had, but was slow to handle. He said it was hands down tougher and stronger than any of his albions or atrims, and that he wouldn't be afraid to actually use it sword on sword if he had to.

One that covers weight, POB, vibe, cutting, etc. I'll take a look later for one. I'm busy wrapping presents now. L.
