Pommel at least is from the VA Warder, isn't it?
Edit: nevermind, just looked it up, the warder pommel has a different shape. It is however similar in construction.

The 5th one from the new designs reminds me Arya's sword from the Eragon movie.
Those are some wicked designs, I love the rapier.

so the yatagan is growing on me, with a slightly more upswept tip it would be awesome. Have you thought about stats for it? Personally I'd go for an overall length of about 66 cm, a width of 3 cm, a thickness of about 4mm and the balance point would be either so the weight is in the belly of the blade or around the base of the blade and the overall weight would be about 1.5 - 1.7 lbs.

I had to take some time to do the metric conversions, but that sounds just about spot-on in terms of dimensions and weight. I'll admit I hadn't given much thought to how to distribute the sword mass, since I'm not well versed in the use of yatagans. I like the idea of having more weight "in the hand" since that's what feels comfortable with my western blades, but with such a light sword, would it be more beneficial to taper less drastically and have the weight fall more forward in the blade? What do you think? I believe I remember Sam commenting that such a blade needn't be weighted far forward like a kukri, but I don't know if he meant to bring it back near the hilt or just to the meat of the blade, so to speak.

I WANT to say you had the Witchking sword on the brain when you designed the longsword. Though I must admit yours has far more class and is much more beautiful.

Well caught, Kid! You're good at this game. +1. And I'm really touched by your compliment. Thank you! That's extraordinarily nice of you to say.

With the dimensions I mentioned it would be more of a sabre style yatagan instead of a heavy style yatagan. With the balance back in the hand it makes it a very fast slashing weapon that still has alot of bite, I wouldn't give it much if any taper considering that it is already a thin bladed weapon. If you balanced it so that it was a khukuri style blade it just wouldn't work within the parameters I described. It would be the type of weapon that I would get from scorpion bow and knives, I think Chris could do justice to this kind of design, or even BKS if I were going a bit higher in terms of price.

Sounds excellent to me, bloodwraith! ;D The "fast slashing weapon" was exactly what I was going for. And to shadowhowler: Aptly named, to be YOUR favorite, Sean ;D And you are quite right--->I haven't looked at Brenno's "neo-historic" blades in ages, but a similarity is definitely there, in the cross and ricasso for sure! But, as Kidcasanova mentioned, it was the "witchking sword" that inspired this badboy--that's where the ricasso and peaked cross idea came from. (Without looking at either reference, mind you) I just aimed to do it my way and shape the elements in a way that felt right for the sword. Seems like out there's only so many shapes that'll work in that situation. Great minds think alike, I suppose

Well considering you based it on Ardeth Bay's sword I figured that you would want it to move the same way as his does and to do that you need the same sort of mechanics in terms of weight and such. Have you read the book Brisingr? If you have I would love to see your interpretation of the sword of that name . Without the ricasso I would happily own the longsword you drew, it is a great looking piece.

I've actaully not read Brisingr, or any of the Inheritence Cycle, but it sounds intriguing. I might give it a look down the road if people recommend it. And thanks for the longsword compliment. I'm not usually one for the narrow ricasso either, (or a pommel that exposes the tang, for that matter, lol) but I decided to kind of "exorcise some demons" with that design and make versions of both that I WOULD tolerate. I wanted to get out of my little box of preferred aesthetics and broaden a bit, and I'm pretty pleased with it. If I just stuck to the things I liked best in swords, my whole collection would look like this, lol: I stepped out of my comfort zone a bit, which is nice.

No, you need MORE fullers! MUAHAHAHAHAHHAHAH! lol.
lol Lunaman, I think I'm gonna copy you and make a lil thread of pics of swords that I've drawn, but I have absolutely no hope of measuring up to ur awesome pen-and-paper pics. I cheat and use a lil wacom tablet and photoshop :/
