Hello folks,
Now that we are in the holidays I just thought I would give a little update of my sword and combative training related activities. Not too long ago I finally opened up my Kokoro Ichi package. The sword is indeed worth the wait as wonderful as it was described. I shall cherish it always. Again, thanks to James and Brian for helping get it to me. I noticed that two other T10 swords have been made available in Paul's store. For those who never got onto the Kokoro Ichi project I encourage you to buy the most recently available swords instead. As far as the blade is concerned you won't be disappointed.
Recently I ended up getting a Swamp Rat Waki. If anybody has seen the videos on it is an amazing little sword capable of much. The one I got was colored in a white blade with red G10 handles. I purchased a kydex sheath for it with a tek lok clip. In contrast and comparison to the Busse American Kensei I own it is a little more high tech. However, the Busse American Kensei is still more refined in workmanship despite being older. They are both great swords and I glad to have them in my collection as well as for practice in the sword arts. They are not swords in the $300 range but for swords in the sub $500 range you can hardly get as stout a sword as these. If you have the money I encourage to pick up one of these rare swords.
I recently started to work on more acquisitions of Filipino swords. Other than the Barong machetes and the one Pinute I own I don't have many. I recently put in an order for an Espada Y Daga set through a combative arts colleague. He has a direct source to a very good maker in the Phillipines and the price will be very competitive. The set will be very similar to the ones put out by Kris Cutlery and Traditional Filipino Weapons. If the maker is as good as is claimed I may end up picking up a couple more.
I recently got my membership at one of the local hunting and wildlife club ranges. Next year I will look at getting a compound bow archery set for hunting. I, also, put down a deposit for a very little used Glock 17 9MM. I have been putting off training projectile arms for awhile because of time and expense. But this coming year seemed like the right time to do it. Hopefully, I will be able to make time to take some survival courses to supplement it all on top of it.
I am still practicing Kalis Illustrisimo as my main sword art system. After this year I think I beginning to understand and assimilate the essence of using a sword versus bludgeon arms. The refinements are subtle but intriguing. I do notice that one's fitness is much improved using live steel versus natural materials drones. I am looking forward to next year and what improvements I can make in my progress.
On a light hearted note I picked up a master Replicas Sting sword from Big Bad Toy Store. It is one of the few non sword swords I have in addition to some Master Replica light saber props. It was on sale and I had a credit with them so why not? I am not a big a Lord of the Rings fan as much as my girlfriend. It was meant to be as a present for her but she opted for a very valuable book I had in my possession instead. Initially I was skeptical of the prop. But when I I finally received it, opened it up to put the batteries in it, and play around with it I was quite impressed. For all essential purposes it looked and acted like the sword in the movie with exception of not being able to meant to be combat ready like a real sword ( the blade is actually polycarbonate plastic ). The presentation of the sword is wonderful as a product and makes an excellent conversation piece on the mantel piece. It's too bad Master Replicas got sold to Corgi as it seems none of the Hollywood props are prolifically being produced as much as the old owners, if at all.
Anyways, that's all that has been up with me. Merry christmas to everybody and a happy new year to all.
