Well, it's been about 4 months in the making, but finally my Jin Shi special order jian is on its way! I kinda just need this thread to vent for a few days untill it gets here (excited, much?)...I'll post pics and impressions here as soon as it's delivered. In the meantime, here are the specs I ordered: Dragon motif jian 27" DH T10 monosteel blade ebony scabbard and grip brass blade collar (as on the Tang jian option from Jin Shi's site) brass pin through handle Here are a couple of teaser pics Garrett sent me a few weeks back: I should also add that Garrett has been great to work with and very patient with me and my constant prodding!

Well, it took a little while, but ITS HERE!!!! The jian just came in a couple hours ago and I've been playing with it ever since.
The blade is exquisite...the mostly-striaght hamon (or whatever the chinese call it) stands out quite well and the blade is thick and RAZOR sharp. It handles like a dream...I love the feel of the ebony grip. The more forward balance and stout blade make this thing feel as though it could cleave a man in two, but the sword is still very light and lively.
There are a couple of cosmetic issues (but at this price point, some are to be expected). The blade collar seems a bit too narrow for the blade...one side seems to be pushing through the brass just a tiny bit. Also, the hollow pin going through the handle is drilled off center quite a bit. These are very minor issues, however, and the sword feels rock solid so far.
I'll post some more pics and a revew later on.

Lucky! My Jin Shi had to go back to the forge. They found a flaw in the blade during polishing so I have to wait a bit longer. Yours looks great! Congrats!
