Is there chainmail t-shirts or handless shirts that could be used on normal life and most normal activities of modern world? Which type of mail could be the most durable and light for this purpose? Also because I want to use it as a cloth on urban areas (on summer only) it should look acceptable and to be rather tight than loose.
From earlier threads I picked some problems that I dont want the shirt to have: -Wear and broke in normal use -Press hard shoulders -Cut the other cloths -Rust -Anything hanging -Riveted (im not sure of this yet) -Too heavy
Is this possible in moderate prices?

check out Ringmesh.com Their stuff is supposed to be super light-weight and it's welded, so no shedding links for you. It's also expensive...

As stated above, Ringmesh is what you are looking for: www.ringmesh.com/It rocks. Like Bryn said, it never looses links, superlight, never rusts/tarnishes, gives great protection (think shark suit here) and it has a lifetime warranty. Definately worth the little bit of extra money (which is still WAY CHEAPER than many other hauberks) for custom fitting - which is something you can't even get in alot of other maille. The stuff is so light and compact, a full size hauberk will ball up and fit into a POUCH, but it gives super coverage and looks great. This is the closest sh*t to mithril you will find, my friend... Both myself and Laithoron can attest to their quality first hand. The stuff has protected either of us through numerous Dragon*Cons - what else can you ask for?

I didnt even know that there are so well made chainmails with tiny rings. It may be even too fine looking for me. Maybe it should have bigger rings. This is from another site. I might like this most of those few I have seen this far. It isnt expensive. It says its for discos too It's from "medieval arms" shop, seems to be on UK. The problem with this is that its aluminum. It just might ruin all its magic. This is not aluminum though: There just is something I dont like about in sleeveless shirts outlook. They might be better with very short sleeves or at least covering the shoulders. This is what they tell about it: " made recently from zinc plated 16 gauge steel links, combined in the antique pattern (4 links through the 5th), inner link dia. 3/8" (10 mms). Zinc coating and gun barrel brown coating on top double protects your shirt from rust" Does it sound durable? Will this really protect if from rust?

Rauta, anything with butted links won't be worth the hassle; you'll lose rings eventually depending on how good the wire is that made the links. MRL shirts lose links almost immediately, others take a little longer but if it is butted, they will ALL lose links eventually.
Go with Ringmesh if you want no muss no fuss structural integrity; barring that, look for riveted shirts. The more period-correct it is, the more expensive it will be. Most riveted shirts have every link riveted; true-to-form European mail was made 4-in-1, and each alternating link was solid/unbroken, the other links were wedge-riveted. A painstaking process, I might add.

You've tempted me one too many times! I couldn't stand it any longer. I just placed an order for a ringmesh shirt and coif. ;D

Odin! Ringmesh looks pretty darn awesome. I am fighting the temptation... Shouldn't be this hard considering I really have no need for a shirt of mail. But that just looks so cool! The prices are really reasonable too. I'd thank you for showing that but my wallet might be hating on you for it. Mike make sure you post your feelings about it too. Another good word from another respected person might just make me buy this something I don't really need

LOL @ ChrisA - you mean, you haven't incorporated armor into your repertoire yet? Wait til you're juggling between sword and armor purchases- then you're having fun! lol

I'm fighting it, Ebon. Fighting it hard!
Swords I can justify. Armor is harder to justify (for me). It's nothing more than cool factor than anything else (again, for me). The swords I actually use... though I have many more than I "need".

Chris, you ever been to the NY Ren Faire In Tuxedo Park? I haven't myself, but I think I'll make an appearance next summer; it runs from Aug 7 - Labor Day and they're running a sale on buy-n-print tickets from their website- only $12- AND you get to bring your weapons, peace-tied of course, but you get to bring them! Its twice that in MD and NO WEAPONS!!!
I've been to the one in VA wine country...don't think I'll ever go back; that one's just not that organized and doesn't offer very much in the way of diversionary entertainment. They had a husband and wife jousting team but...well...it was a husband and wife. LOL
So the point of my post? Well, you need armor if you're going to appear at a Ren Faire...you just HAVE to have it, my man!

I know it well. I have been going there on and off for close to 20 years. And I have gone in costume on 2 occasions. My friends had a medival wedding and we had the outfits from that (overpriced and rather tacky compared to what's available today), including a nice looking but otherwise SLO from Windlass. Those outfits are mostly usless now, faded or yellow with age.
Let me know if you go this year and I will meet up with you. For that I will look into an outfit.
**Apologies to rauta for derailing his thread! Hopefully this is a bump to draw attention to his questions.**

Chris, I'm going...already talked to my sister (she's in Philly) so all we need do is setup the weekend. You're out on the Island, right? We'll be rollin in from Long Beach (Nassau)- lets do it man!
Natch, we'll keep in touch on that...I really, really wanna go. I was born and raised there and never knew of it....a shame, no?
I apologize to rauta too, for the derailment. I have one last thing to add- you want it to look historical, look more historical and be strong, or just look close but be strong?

DAMMIT MAN!!! You've tempted me one too many times! I couldn't stand it any longer. I just placed an order for a ringmesh shirt and coif. ;D Once you try it on, you will see what I am talking about. You definately won't regret it; and while there is more historically-accurate looking stuff out there, there is not anything as well-built, lightweight, protective, or easy to care for than Ringmesh. You will love it, especially when doing some extra safe cutting in the yard for added protection. This stuff does not weigh as much as a stiff leather jacket, my friend. No temptation here, just common sense! Once people learn about it, they add a Ringmesh to their arming chest pretty quickly. I've never met anyone that did not like it once they gave it a wear! ;D

Thanks Odingaard!
Im about to buy the rignmesh vest. Could it be cheaper after christmas? How much it normally costs? I know it says its already a sale price but how can I know that? I have no idea how much these things costs normally.
Can it really be cheaper now than normally, just before the christmas?

Their prices seem to hover around the same price, and have since about 2005. I think it would probably be the same either way, unless Azon (the maker) posted something on eBay - which I have seen happen a few times in the past, but not very often.

Well now I know what I'm buying next year! ;D Which isn't that far away. It's on your recommendation Odingaard. That and the stuff looks good to me. So thanks!
