My son and I are planning to spend much of the winter poring over "Fighting With The German Longsword" and working out with a couple of wasters. My wife came to me last night and said "I need to lose some weight, (I'm smart enough to keep my mouth shut for this part) and that sounds like good exercise, would you mind getting me a practise sword and having me get involved with you as well?" I was pretty surprised, my wife usually tolerates my silliness with good humor but she doesn't usually get involved. This got me to wondering, any of the rest of you have wives or girlfriends (or maybe some of you are wives or girlfriends) who take an interest in swords?

My wife likes them but does not have a love for them. She also enjoys cutting but can pass on it as well, which is kinda good because it's more bottles for me! So I've gotten her interested enough to not look at me like I'm a lunatic. But not so much that she wants swords, which would seriously cut into my sword budget! Which is small enough right now anyway.

My wife likes swords and one year got so involved she bought her own sword. It was a Jody Samson archers short sword,oh well there went my sword budget for that year on a nice sword but not what I would have bought. I guess if she can put up with my buying habits with swords she desirves one now and again. At least she has good taste in makers. She did mention a month back or so she would like to start ;earning to cut.I think thats pretty cool.

my wife is interested in swords and other weapons, but as Sparky said, not as much as I am. that is a good thing, because it brings the bond in the hobby/sport, but leaves more room for me to enjoy the sport financially. she wants some more swords, but not as fast as I do... darn thing is like a crack habit... more, i say...more Now!!!!
sorry, i got excited.
seh is with me on youtube working out with staff vs sword. as soon as it is less foggy and rainy here, we will shoot video of sparring sword vs sword. we dont want to do it now to avoid rust. i have been using a synthetic wax-based lube that will get slid around during practice and expose the metal... and i am out of supplies until after Christmas.

I've seen you two in the staff vs. sword video, interesting stuff. I had no idea the staff could be that effective aginst a sword.

depends on training and style. a spear one would think good, but a staff is a spear without the pointy thing.
i had a guy tell me one time if a war broke out in the streets, and i didnt have a gun instead of a sword, i would be screwed. i told him... all i have to do is get to the first guy with a gun. it is the same with a staff.... get to the first guy with a sword. LOL.

Im pretty sure that my wife sees my sword obsession as a crazy and dangerously unnecessary hobby. She does however tolerate it and occasionally humors me by watching me cut from inside the house. She may just be waiting to see me cut a limb off though...

I have managed to coax my wife into cutting three or four bottles, tho I can't quite get the bug firmly planted in her yet. She has bought me swords for different occasions. Here she supprized me as I was playing in the backyard.

I like swords and my husband kindly tolerates my insanity Although, my budget is spent more on learning and training than on steel.

Ha, I like that I'm fairly certain that in the right hands, a staff can be very effective. Not in my hands, but someones. My girlfriend trains German longsword with me. I don't think I could be in a relationship with a girl that had no interest at all in swords. So much of my time is spent reading, researching, training, building... all about swords. A girl would be left out of nearly everything I enjoy doing if she didn't have at least some interest.

not married, but I did make a point of mentioning it on the first date with the other half "This makes me sound much more evil than I actually am but ..."
So far shes fine with it, havent managed to get her to pick one up yet, but baby steps, though I think I may have gone backwards a bit when the first swords I showed her were my 2 Okatanas which are taller than her lol.

That's the way it's been for me, with my wife kindly tolerating my sword mania up until this. Of course it's not like she asked for a VA Atrim arming sword or anything so I maybe shouldn't read too much into this but I can't help but see it as a good sign.

I met my gf at a chivalrous sword handling class almost two years ago That being said, I'm definitely more into it than she is.

My woman has very little interest in swords apart from liking them to take photo's with now and again. And even wors she can't stan nor understd my love of Conan the Barbarian Good job she's beautiful and funny. ;D

I spend more money on training, with monthly dojo fees etc. Of course the initial cost of uniforms and weapons is over with, but now I'm thinking of another bokken and she is like "but don't you have 2-3 already? it's just another wooden stick." guess I can't totally argue with that. LOL But I always remind her my previous hobby I have, tabletop gaming, I spent A LOT more money on over the years, and didn't get me out of the house and exercising. So in the last year I have almost nothing on that hobby, and focusing on my MA.
