I moved this posting from sword making section where someone said it doesnt belong to.
This idea is for those interested in Viking types of swords. After seeing Brennos seax "Ice of Battle" (picture below) and its inscription I had an idea that the inscription could be a lot longer. The trail of runes could reach where the fullers end so that it would look like a third "fuller". It could even reach the tip in some types of swords.
The inscription could tell for example how the blade was created in ice and fire, who made it, and/or what is its deadly purpose. Also it could be a prayer to gods.

Imagine this with a longer text. What do you think?
The language in the inscription can be any language relevant to the Viking age written in some sort of runic symbols. Brenno used a special poetic "Kalevala" style of Finnish that is called "runo", "rune" or more accurately "runesong". This form of poem was meant to be sung. It may look gibberish (even when written in latin letters) but if you sing it in a right way you will hear it's a poem with a certain elegant style.
The poem of Brennos sword was this:
TAISTELUN JÄÄ ON NIMENI
OLEN BRENDANIN TAKOMA
The language in my idea can be any relevant language, but if Finnish is used I can help with creating the text. I have already made just for fun one complete story that could be used as such or modified as a blade inscription. If you want to use this story just ask me the Finnish version, and you can have it without any cost. I dont "publish" it yet just because if a sword maker wants to "publish" it only in the blade itself. I might also make other stories in this poetic meter and I wont ask anything in return. I enjoy making these.
My story translated in english:
I grew up in a good home.
"Hanging around" the high walls I grew tall. (joke intended)
My mother called me a flower,
My father called me his last son, the light of his life,
my brother called me his trusted protector
and my sister called me her treasure.
Sun called me his moon,
sea called me her wave,
earth called me her mountain,
and even the forest called me her high sacred tree
that supports the sky-dome.
They just dont know me!
The evil knows me,
The evil ones calls me death
the raiders calls me the blade of gore.
the enemy calls me the mutilator,
and the corrupted calls me their doom.
I have another idea too. This has no complete finnish version yet, I am just testing my skills trying to make it
Dont bury me under the mound with my owner!
Dont bury me to the other world!
I dont want to go to the other world,
its full of people who hates me,
its full of people I have killed
There are a thousand of my enemies there
one hundred of them horsemen
two hundred of them oarsmen,
five hundred of them swordsmen,
and the rest are archers.
Even their king is with them!
They would twist me
they would put me to fire
and melt me, forge me,
and turn me into horseshoes
for dead horses to
to walk on dirt and mud
and to walk on a hard stone
in the last battle
so that I would sparkle
while screaming of pain.
Don't take me to the other world,
you are not safe with me,
because they know me.
Give me to your children,
and I will make the enemies
to swarm the land of dead.
