Looks like I'm getting a Global Gear G-197V2 Spring Steel Highlander Katanna for Christmas. Took a lot of fast talking but I was able to talk my wife into letting buy one.
I'm pretty stoked considering my first sword was one of the Marto highlander wallhangers. It will be nice to get one that is actually something I can use instead of look at.
I've read the review for it hear on the board but was curious if anyone else had one of these and what their experiences with it were.

Congrats, Forsaken. I used to covet a Highlander kat back in the day. Then I learned one couldn't get a functional one and time passed and I moved on and Euro blades became my main interest. Now that some functional Highlander blades have come about I been craving one, a Duncan model as I am more a fan of the tv series. Please do a review when you get it.

A review like this one? www.sword-buyers-guide.com/highlander-sword.html(I know it never hurts to have another opinion. Just didn't know if maybe you overlooked it, Ric.)

That review bothered me for Paul's praise of the hilt as being the most accurate, and being better than all the stainless ones... when its far from being the most accurate to any of them (I think the new UC one is the most accurate personally) and the hilt is the exact same design used on all the wallhangers. BUt congrats about the sword! Wish my girl would buy me a sword haha.

My only warning to you is that Global Gear katanas generally tend to be quite point heavy for what they are. Apart from that they make an excellent blade and the hamon is generally really beautiful. Are you buying it because you want a good katana or because you want a functional highlander one? If you just want a good katana I would talk to Mr Southren about the SBG custom, also the shipping is going to kill you and the price really isn't that reasonable in my opinion.

Thanks for the feedback bloodwraith.
I'm getting this one because I've always wanted a functional highlander blade. Other than that, I mainly collect European blades.
