Hello all its been awile since I have posted but I have this qustion and was wondering if some one could help me out. I want to buy a war hammer, but most that I have seen are junk and not,"battle ready". The one that I see a lot are the Cold steel ones, now I know that Cold Steel can be hit or miss with some items but this thing looks bad ass. So what I want to know is........"Is it bad ass?" "How does it hold up?" "And for the price are there other options?" Any help on the matter would be great! Thanks:) I also wanted to add this link,"hope it works" Does the side pannels come assemebled? All the ads show it with them on but in the video,"the one on youtube" it shows them off Again some insight on the matter at hand would be great. Again thanks.

I have one and it is a more modern interpretation of a War hammer, it is very solid and tough. I have the Windlass English War hammer for comparison, and the CS is more heavy duty. You have to do some assembly and it could be a bit better. But for smashing, it works!! I don't care if the CS is beat up, but I don't want to beat up the Windlass. War Hammers are awesome!

Hi Deicide, I own this hammer and can say that it is well made and very sturdy. It comes disassembled, and you have to put the head and the langets on yourself. Personally I liked it better without the langets and didn't bother putting them on.
There are a few things about it you should consider, though. The first is that the haft on this is long, and really meant for two hands. Of course, you could always shorten the haft. The second is that it is not historically accurate, if that makes a difference to you. The head and langets are held on with screws.
As far as there being other options, it really depends on what you consider to be the same price. The Cold Steel hammer can be found for anywhere between $40 and $60 US. For the same $60, you can get the Windlass English warhammer or German warhammer, both of which are more historically accurate and designed for one-hand use. I also own the English warhammer and I really like it.
So if you don't care about historical accuracy and want a nice cheap hammer, the Cold Steel is a good choice.
Hope that helps, Alan

The langets come unassembled. I picked up 2 of these several years ago and cleaned up and stained the hafts and brought the head and langets down to bare metal, wrapped the grips with leather. I know I sold one, at least, I'll have to check my attic to see if I kept the other.
Never gave them a destruction test, although they didd appear to be solidly made.

So how do the ones you said above hold up have you used them are they sturdy??? I saw some at KOA??? Comments?? Thanks:) I personally have not given the English hammer the same workout that I have given the Cold Steel one, but a lot of people have said that the wood that Windlass uses on their polearms isn't very sturdy. It's a tropical hardwood that tends to dry out in shipping, making it easier to break. I haven't had any problems with mine but again I haven't done much with it. I don't know about the German hammer, but it's the same wood so theoretically would have the same potential problems. If all you're looking for is a good, sturdy hammer, the Cold Steel is the way to go. I've had mine for over 2 years and have never had any problems with it.

Yea sometimes they make those spikes,"too pointy" when I get mine I will rework the spike and make it more suited so this does not happen. Also I had some Ideas on dressing up the hammer with some wood burning,"light" on the handle and maybe somekind of leather wraping towards the end .....i'm not shure what I will do yet but I have all the tools to put it togather very well . I'll let you all know what I think when it's all said and done.
Thanks you all have been very helpfull.
Now where to get a ...lol battle ready mace or frail (I belive its called??)
Thoughts.

I had one of the CS War Hammers back when they first came out in 2003. Pretty nice for the money. I totaled an El Camino with mine. The haft held up fine, and there was no damage to the head. ;D
Don't ask...

That's a clever design. Makes me think of Hitchcock's Psycho.

Funny enough, it was actually a pretty popular historical design. There are a number of fist hammers in museum collections; I seen two on display at the Tower of London years ago. Definately intimidating as hell. ;D

Funny enough, it was actually a pretty popular historical design. ;D Yeah, but you know all the older soldiers were looking at each other and saying "These young punks! Think they're so cool, with their plated armor and their heater shields and those STUPID FIST MACES. Whaddabuncha douchebags!" And the other one looks at him and says, "I know, right!?! Use a sword and a kite shield like a man! No respect for the classics."

^-HAHA!! ;D Nice one... +1 for the laugh. I'm actually not a big fan of the 'fist maces', I'm afraid. They look way to WoW-ish for me. That's not to say that I dislike regular maces/war hammers, of course! ;D Good find, Odingaard. That site has a zillion and one good ways to spend money. -Slayer
