All right, the finances do not allow any sword purchases for Yuletide so, my wife and I got talking about what to get each other for the Winter Holidays. My wife has given me the option of ordering one of two books I've been dieing to order. I can get either "Chinese Swordsmanship: The Yang Family Taiji Jian Tradition" by Scott M. Rodell or "Fighting with the German Longsword" by Christian Henry Tobler. As some of you may know I recently decided to dive into the darkside of Euro swords and have been beginning to practice some longsword techniques. Chinese Sword Arts, are my "home territory" so to speak, but I still have a lot to learn there also. This is my dilemma, which one of the two to pick.... I've been told Tobler's book is pretty much the bible of longsword basics and is "the" place to start learning Euro swordsmanship. Scott Rodell is the foremost instructor of Chinese swordsmanship in the US and his book is to CSA what Tobler's book is to WMA. Now, Which to choose....

I don't know enough to give an informed opinion on either book but my first, gut reaction was "Go with Tobler's book, go outside your comfort zone and challenge yourself a little bit" Don't know if that helps but there's my two cents.

Echo the above two, really immerse yourself in that which isn't comfortable, you'll get more out of it on the first read as a bonus because it is new to you
