Ebon Cassiline: Yes, that is pretty much my view as well. That day will not come for a long time for me and my life is difficult enough as it, if I didn't find small ways to enjoy life I would suffer even more from depression than I do.
Ancalagon: I couldn't agree with you more, they aren't essential. I have been saving up for the whole year, spending only what I needed to in rent and food and bills, the rest has been left to accumulate, so I have a nice little buffer.

I am happy you were able to see the intention behind my post BW and know I wasn't trying to be inflammatory. I also agree with others that there has to be some activities that allow one to digress from the stresses of life. However, the whole issue just kinda hit a nerve with me because I grow weary of hearing many americans begging to be bailed out and given assistance because they are irresponsible to begin with.
On a separate issue, the good thing about wanting a sword right now is the season. I am totally drooling over a watch right now and am hoping that one of my family members will buy it for me so I dont have to cry when the money leaves my account.
So, here is a +1 in the hopes that your new sharp and pointy will find its way into your stocking.

Marabunta, you heard one of us actually begging to be bailed out, not in jest, but actually looking/appealing for assistance? I've not seen that here; the ones who might actually need the assistance are taking steps to at least alleviate if not outright rid themselves of that need. Me, I don't like sweeping generalizations, even though I've been known to use them a time or two, but I try not to.
BW, you have intestinal fortitude to be able to not only budget all of your life's needs but your sword funds -and limited to only once a year at that. Kudos to you, man, for holding it all together; better to struggle and walk your own path than to be entirely subsisting on alms and the good nature of mankind.

Bloodwraith,I to struggle with each purchase I make-it seems that the moment I commit to the purchase alittle vioce in my head says,"you cant eat that!"This year I"ve gone a bit overboard,I"ve purchased four swords,2-Musashis(low end cutters),an Akio Hatorri, and an Sbg Custom which should be here anyday now.So now I'm swearing to myself not to buy that Pro Kat Custom until the new year-after that its all customs for me.I figure that way I'll get what I want and level off at maybe two a year. Also,if its a custom job I really have to think about what I want and itll slow me down lots.I think.LOL.

yup I think we can all relate. I work side jobs to make my sword money and never ever spend family money on my toys. the more I want the harder I have to work. that arrangement works real well for me and I never have to worry too much when I want to buy because I have the money already set aside and it was money my family was never going to see in the first place. this only works though because I have a steady, reliable job that pays me well enough to take care of my family all by itself. if not for that I would be working side jobs to meet my family's needs and not buying swords at all. Same here, side jobs and copper wire! ;D Though since the Christmas season that money has gone to presents for the five kids. Dang could have bought both SBG customs and some axes. But family is what's important so no worries! ;D PS thanks Tom you saved me a lot of typing!
