Very nice! If I may ask, how long and at what temperature did you temper the blade?

Thanks CFan. I tempered at about 470F for an hour and a half.

470? Man, that gives a hardness of 58HRC!! Isn't that a bit too high for a TH blade? I'm still figuring out how high I should temper my blades. I just saw one that was tempered at 350°C twice and that one was SOFT. It really surprised me because it should have given about 52HRC which is the same as my H/T longsword but it actually was much softer.

Just because you heat something up and quench it in something else, doesn't mean you always will hit the top Rockwell values, so unless you have a rockwell tester using a chart is mostly a guessing game. It might bet at 58, could be 5 points lower or a few points higher. Sword hardness is a personal decision, based on understanding of the steel you are using, heat treating methods both in how it is heated up and how and what it is quenched into and geometry etc. as well as what you want to do with the sword. I don't have a rockwell tester, so I can only trust that I err to the side of caution with processes used based on experience, IE i know that if I heat and quench in the mediums I use then temper at 470F + or - 10 degrees I will get a moderately tough sword that holds a great edge.

Sam: Awesome! This is by far, THE best tactical katana I have seen yet!

I am not particularly fond of katana (or is it katana's'?), but this looks very nice. Do you know how much it weighs?

Best tac I've ever seen, Sam! Really wonderful tsuka, the waist gives it elegance. Would love to handle this one.

Thanks everyone, glad you all like it. roflcopter, just plain superglue from wal mart. I had some super thin cyanoacrylate glue from a hobby store that soaked in better and dried quicker, I will have to get some more. No cutting vids, no access to a camera. I bet it weighs less than 2 pounds, I will weight it tomorrow at work. It is my new fun sword
