Thank you for the information, Tsafa. I can probably buy most of that armor with the money I have now. First of all, I need to talk to my local SCA group.

First of all, I need to talk to my local SCA group. That is the first thing you should do for sure. You never know, they might have something you can borrow too, or buy used.

I spoke with my local Shire's leaders today via messages. I will give you an update tomorrow or the next day.

Another place to get SCA, good SCA armor, is here: spiers-saddlery.stores.yahoo.net/ - it is known as StoneKeep Armory. If you're serious about the SCA, check out their spring steel lineup; its about a third of the weight of mild steel but twice as strong (or more). The pricing's not bad considering....

It seems that I am going to visit my local SCA group leader/smith Saturday. A helm that he made was featured briefly on the History Channel. I will give you another update then. By the way, does anyone know a good SCA forum?

I think each kingdom might have its own forum; your Shire-leader may help?

I will ask him when he is done working, but I don't think that he knows of any SCA forums. He seems more of a learn-by-experience and in-person type of man.

By the way, does anyone know a good SCA forum? forums.armourarchive.org/phpBB2/index.php has a lot of SCA people on it. The Medieval Combat and Weapons forum is 90%+ SCA specific.

I met my local SCA instructor today, as well as one of his friends. It turns out that my local instructor is a Baron, and has been involved in armored combat since 1991. He is an extremely kind man. I was able to wear his armor today (although it didn't fit at all) and "fight" his friend. We didn't really fight much, because he just let me attempt to hit him for the most part. My SCA instructor has a 14th century kit. He showed me his workshop and some of his creations. He also told me that he knows Jason from Arms of Valor. He has outfitted many new fighters, and even some older fighters, for next to nothing. A more caring man would be very hard to find. He does not hold any titles other than Baron because although he was an apprentice to a master armorer for 10 years, and a squire 8 (it could be vice-versa), it is too difficult to gain recognition for anything in our rural area. He allowed me to watch him weld a stainless steel helmet for his friend. I have not decided on what time period that my kit will represent yet.

Yes, I know Baron Moulton very well. He is a great guy.
I have some loaner armor you could wear to get you started. I also have a helm you can borrow as soon as my new one is finished in January. Actually, by the end of January when my new kit is finished I will have all the armor you will need to get started.
So if you have not purchased anything yet, save your money and you can borrow my stuff until you figure out and save to get the stuff you really want!
Jason

Thank you for the generous offer, Mr. Jason. I think that I will be helping the baron make my armor, but I need to speak with him again and learn all of the details. I may take you up on your offer. This is him being appointed a baron. This has a helm that he made. It is the silver one at the end, and this is from the History Channel.

Great videos!
I went through my pile of pieces and parts of armor I have collected over the years and based on your picture definitely have some arms, gorget, and (very soon) will have an extra helm that will fit you.
I am guessing on your build based on the pictures, but guess you probably weigh about 150 pounds. How tall are you?

I am 5'11 and the last time that I weighed myself (a few months ago) I was 164. I really need to go and get a checkup by a doctor. The last time I saw a doctor was years ago. Today I went to the baron's shop. He taught me how to build a rattan sword hilt from aluminum. It was very educational.

Update: Yesterday we worked on demi-gauntlets. Today we completed one, after an annoying setback. He also finished mounting my rattan sword. I briefly sparred with two of his friends, and it was very humorous.
