I'm on the lookout for a dirk and sgian dubh for my scottish outfit and I was wondering if anyone has any recomendations. Kult of Athena has some nice sgian dubhs, especially these two: kultofathena.com/product~item~AH3255.htmkultofathena.com/product~item~AH3255.htmand I was also looking at their dress dirk (I'm on the search for one with knife and fork included): kultofathena.com/product~item~MC2086.htmand I was wondering if anyone has any opinions on these items. Also, does anyone have any other receomendations for dirk/dubh makers? I live in Europe so preferbly "local" dealers. Also, my budget isn't the best, I would prefer if the items cost no more than $100 each. Happy thanksgiving (although it might be a day or two late for that, right?)

Where about do you live Peter ... the options for dealers are plenty full, if you live in the low countries T might be able to help. I used to play in a Pipe band and could give you a few addresses !

Speaking from experience, I have the Windlass sgian dubh. I'm not Scottish so I don't use it as a dress item, but from a practical point of view it's a fine little knife once you work on the edge. More importantly, it's cheap! I don't know if that's what you're looking for, but I would certainly recommend it.
I'd also recommend any of the Sheffield offerings. I have one of their sgian dubhs and a few other blades and they are all reasonably attractive and good quality.

I have something very similar to the windlass model Kult of Athena carries. It is quite nice and very comfortable in your sock. Keep in mind that you really want a pretty flat handle or else it will dig into your leg and be horribly uncomfortable.
While the dress dirk might be a nice piece, I've never seen someone wear a dirk to a formal or semi-formal affair. Sgian dubh sure, but not a dirk. Among other things, semi-formal and formal outfits usually replace the belt with a vest/waistcoat so you don't have anything to carry it with. Dirks usually only show up at casual events like the highland games at which point the one you linked to is way too ornate.

I like the look of the simple windlass fighting dirk, great looking, sturdy two edged piece.
