Greetings all
I am shopping for eventually buying a kukri. I have no precise expectations really, just looking for a ''good'' kukri for 200 bucks or less. I came across himalayan imports and khukuri house.
Are these two producers good ? Do you know others that are better ?
Thanks

Himalayan Imports is arguably one of the best makers of khukuri and were you to go with them you would be extremely pleased with your purchase. What do you want the khukuri for?

Quite frankly, that kukri will mostly be for bottle cutting and for including to my collection a real nepalese-made kukri. I was curious about both of these makers, because they both produce their kukris in Nepal and both offer a vast selection of different blades. I was considering Khukuri house because some of their products are very low-priced.

don't be fooled, Khukuri house has a reputation for charging A LOT for shipping. Himalayan Imports, or H.I. for short, is a great choice. Yangdu, the owner, lives in Reno, Nevada and ships from there as she gets bulk shipments of her khuks. You can also go here www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=739. Yangdu posts up some product that either is not listed on the main H.I. shopping site or has some minor defect in it that really wouldn't be that noticeable. If it's something like a piece from the online store that didn't make it through quality control, she lists it up on this forum for a cheaper price, often times much cheaper, and often times for a reason as insignificant as "Polish on handle could use retouching". she always lists why it's gone on to one of her 'deals of the day' topics. To contact her, just send her an e-mail at HIMIMP@aol.com

Thank you for sharing those infos, everyone.
I will probably go for a himalayan imports kukri, however I will still take a few look on Khukuri house products. Although the shipping is much higher than with HI, the shipping cost isn't very different than what I pay for ordering other swords from the USA. Also, some of their kukri are very low-priced.

I'd go for a Cold Steel or a windlass. the cold steel is fun to tinker with as well.

I have an assam rifles Kukri from Atlanta Cutlery (made by WIndlass) I bought it online for about 40 bucks tops, if you want an edge on yours it will be about 60. I got mine without an edge though because i like to do staged/ live combat. It is my favorite blade. Its funny considering I am not superstitious but every time I take it out of the sheath I poke my palm as a sign of respect.

I have Himalayan Imports (HI) kuhkuris and Khukuri House (KH) ones. Khukuri House (KH) have great customer service. Quick response, ready with advice. Updating progress. They made two blades i had order in two weeks . Shipping was around week. They provide tracking number. Also KH can make customizations. Himalayan Imports (HI) like i stated in other post have also great service, they can do customs, shipping is very quick, and like said thepepperscull you can go www.bladeforums.com Yangdu is posting (with pics) many different blades. These are great investments. ;D Comparing HI to KH. I like more HI. Khukuri: top is HI 20" Kobra by Sher (tiger). Neem wood handle. down is KH 15" sirupate rose wood handle. Second from top is Khukuri House made "Service No 1" standard issue to the Gurkhas. (These two on top are KH) szabla

Oooh, nice HI setup szabla.
I would also reccomend if it is for bottle cutting one of the martial arts khukuri sold by HI. Yangdu is a very well respected lady and has a wonderful reputation, like I said I don't think you'd be disappointed also HI does custom khukuri, so if you want a particular wood on the handle or blade shape or whatever. They may seem slightly pricy but they will last you a life time.

Sweet pictures Szabla, thanks for showing them.
So far, I'm edging toward one of HI lighter model (a model that comes with a lighter, thinner blade, made for martial arts, according to their website) and/or the two-edged ''reinterpreted'' kukri from KH.
