In Kult of Athena there are some extremely cheap swords. Some of them look interesting, and even though I would normally not consider to get one of these types quite unknown to me, with this price I might. Here are the two that interests me most. Are these familiar to you? Please warn me if these are completely junk. www.kultofathena.com/product~item~SW691~name~Spartan+Short+Sword.htmwww.kultofathena.com/product~item~SW614~name~Celtic+Short+Sword.htmThey cost only 30$. Its not told who made them. At least the "spartan sword" does look good in its simple way (even though I dont know is it historic). It is stainless steel and stainless swords generally shatter, but is this a problem if the blade is that short? They look a bit like bronze swords. I could etch it with copper to make it look like copper based metal.

The spartan does look a bit like the windlass spartan sword. Where did you read that it's stainless?

I'd be a bit wary of those. Granted, you have less to worry about with a short blade than a longer blade in terms of stainless steel shattering, but still be very careful. Honestly, I'd just spring for a windlass. It's not terrible more expensive, and then you know it can take at least a bit of a beating. In fact, yeah, just go for a windlass. Cheap and decent for what you pay.

I asked KOA by email different things about the Spartan short sword. They replied that the tang is a thin welded rod, "not very strong for cutting, but ok on a thrust". I asked specifically about thrusting. Also I got the impression that its structure is quite a stiff, even though the question of its integrity was not direcly replied by them. Update: I was thinking to buy this just for curiousity but then I came to my senses and used this money to two gourmet smoked salmons. The idea of rat tail tang was too discusting, even though I did not plan to hit objects with it.

If you like them you should get them... I think people take their stainless steel phobias to far some times, in a blade that short it should be fine, assuming it is well secured to the hilt. (probably the most likely thing to go wrong! )

This short sword I could accept being of stainless steel. However normal priced copper sword like sword I would propably demand to be made of copper.
