I was digging around my folder of sword pics, and this struck me: Awesome furniture aside, the blade looks fantastic to my tastes. Rather than the wavy flame blades I've seen, this one has a very dramatic chiseled appearance. Anyone know anything about the historical or functional use of flamberge blades? Also, are there any good productions with such blades, or custom makers skilled at making them?

I like THAT one...that one actually looks great! By and large, however, I have found the flamberge and other flame-themed blades to be ugly and awkward.

I bought one of those Del Tin ones years ago from MRL during a wholesale closeout. I just got it as a massive wall decor to hang over the mantle, I never planned on actually using it. The thing weighed a ton, it's solid as a rock. That price is insane compared to what I paid in 2003 though, jeez....
I'd be interested in seeing that Ritter Steel in person...
I'd also love to get my hands on that Samson piece in the first post as well....that sword was born to hack, slash, and pillage.

Informative stuff, Odinguard Ecovolo: I think Hanwei makes a version of that zweihander as well. Very interesting sort of sword: used as part saw, for cutting off spearheads, part polearm, and part sword. Brendan: love the wood and metal carving of the Dragon, and the blade as well. The dagger's got some awesome lines. I'm wondering: how much more difficult would it be to make a flame blade of the Dragon's sort, as opposed to a similar straight blade? Also, would the pointy flame blade in the OP pic be harder to make than one with curves such as yours?
