Question for Aussie forumites: Can anyone offer any input as to experience importing Zaitochi / walking stick style sword from OS sellers to Australian private addresses? I have heard of customs disabling Indonesion walkingsticks when family members brought some back from bali. Cheers guys,

It is the ultimate in concealed weaponry, customs has a very dim view of such things. You will not get it into the country i wouldn't imagine. The only way you might be able to get it is if it is sent by an Australian dealer inside Australia. The only sword cane that i would trust is the one made by last legends, the blind warrior mk II.

I don't know about importing them, but I know lots(including myself, Paul ,ronin) of us have the Hanwei zatoichi . All being Aussies. Globalgear have them for about $AUS170, but Hanwei have a forged model now with a removeable blade. Which I'm sure Globalgear will have soon. Last legend is about the same price but don't know of availability in Oz . I have given mine a good old bashing and it still looks good after an oiling.

The only one that i know sold it besides globals managed to get them in because it dosent have a locking mechanism to keep the blade in place, ie the blade will fall out when inverted.
anyway, send an email to the weapons department of customs at weaponspolicy@customs.gov.au and ask them, perhaps mentioning the ansence of a locking mechanism, and also ask what would happen if they say ok in the email and its seized...
Or sign up to GlobalGear and get it for list price minus 10%, they also have 20% sales sometimes too...
Dont forget theres also the state weapons laws to take into account, just because you can get it through customs does not mean you can legally own it. Victoria is the worst with a seperate license, some other states make collectors exempt, but its worth checking into...
