Okay my wife comes to me and asks "do they make cheap swords for under $100.00 that are 'good'?" Evidently my two oldest have saved up their money and want to buy me a sword for Christmas. How great is that!? Since it's not enough for the SBG/BKS custom leaf blade I recommended this site www.musashiswords.com/shop/home.php . These are not to bad are they? I'm pretty sure I've read that this were "okay" starter swords. Am I right? Or should I recommend another site to her? Thanks Rob

Musashi swords are generally pretty good for what they cost. I have their Zetsurin, picked it up for $60-ish, nice enough sword. Their $80-something line, was it the Takeo? Anyway, they seem pretty good, based on reviews.

Just as an alternate option, if you're into Axes or Hawks you can usually pick up a decent one of those for under $100.

Thanks Rob I am not sure about what kind of swords you like, but in my case, I am not much interested in Eastern swords, so this might have been a choice for me: www.kultofathena.com/product~item~500646~name~Confederate+Cavalry+Saber.htm--OR-- www.kultofathena.com/product~item~500618~name~1860+Light+Cavalry+Union+Saber.htmdepending on what you prefer. my folks have learned though that I have to choose the sword in order for me to like it, so they give me cash now. I didn't explicitly tell them, but I usually "study" my swords before I buy them, so they decided no try from them would be a match for it.

I got an eighty dollar Musashi wind dragon a couple years ago now I think. It's held up well, got it from Swords of Might, if I recall correctly. You got some great kids there, Rob.

Sparky, you might point them to the sale of Hank Reinhardt's collection. I've been looking at the catalog and some of the axes are going for as little as $40. You could find something you really like that they can afford.

I've got one the ones in that line and I am happy with it. For the price, I think it is a very good deal. Debbie

Second that-- I picked one up from Trueswords.com. It has a plastic tsuka under the cotton ito, but it's sturdily made, and a good blade for cutting 'light' targets like tatami half-mats and plastic water bottles. --Edward

Plastic tsuka (grip?) you say. I didn't know that, tho not at issue for me at this price and as you say, Edward, it's been a sturdy sword. Still that looks like wood under the ito to me but I've never taken it apart (kinda scared to, these kat hilt construction seems so delicate).
Sparky, you seem like a euro type to me but I'd let em get me a kat. They're fun to play with once in a while and will remind you why you like euros more. Okay boys no hitting below the belt.

Lol Ric! I'm gonna give a list to my wife and then let her "find" some swords for the boys to pick through. So I'll probably have no idea what I get till Christmas! I figure If it's sharp and pointy I'll LOVE it! Though I really liked those Calvary swords george300 linked. Never really looked at Calvary swords before. Thanks everyone! Rob
