The name is sort of temporary, but the idea is as old as my relationship with John Lundemo. Many years ago John and I discussed making a sword based loosely on the "Daywalker" sword from the Blade movies. When I mean loosely, i mean VERY loosely. The idea was for a sword of "katana length" but with a double edged blade, round disc tsuba like guard and a grip that was somewhat of a bastard sword size. The design evolved into becoming a wider, more cut oriented blade with double fullers as opposed to the fuller-less pointed daywalker sword. The handle design was left more up to John who came up with the fishtail pommel which is alot more aesthetically pleasing than the original design. What we eventually got was a sword that bared VERY little resemblance to the inspiration and more resemblance to a chinese Jian type sword. We will let the on-lookers decide what inspired the design because in actuality its another one of those "100% Lundemo" designs. The blade, guard and pommel are all made of damascus and the handle/grip is covered with rayskin. The blade is about 28" long and the entire hilt (handle and pommel) is about 7" long. Its a very lightweight, agile sword and is just begging to cut something! Vampires? Zombies? who knows! it was really rainy today sorry for the sucky pix... www.cuttingedgeforum.com/forum/download/file.php?id=196www.cuttingedgeforum.com/forum/download/file.php?id=197www.cuttingedgeforum.com/forum/download/file.php?id=198www.cuttingedgeforum.com/forum/download/file.php?id=199

I am LOVING this. I have very particular tastes in movie or fantasy swords and I think this is fantastic. The only thing I would want changed is a narrower tip profile for staking vamps through their undead hearts, but I'd be splitting hairs at that point. (I'm hard to please ) The guard is spectacular, the fullers are great, the pommel is beautiful, the grip is unique, and the scabbard is lovely. Amazing-looking piece. Seems like it would be perfect for taking out all those pesky bloodsuckers. ;D

That's not bad, actually. My hand would feel naked because of the non-existent guard, but I think I'd drop a few on something like that.

Very nice. I especially love the guard. I agree with Lunaman, though in that I would like to see a more tapered thrusting tip, but that wouldn't disuede me from throwing cash at you for one of these. Question though, is the pommel peened? Welded? I would love to get a look at the tang.

Well, being as I fence with Euros, that guard still makes me feel naked M.

Question though, is the pommel peened? Welded? I would love to get a look at the tang. The pommel is peened the tang is fat as is all Odins. The tip is great for thrusting as I have discovered. A pointed tip doesn't nessessarily give deeper thrusting. If you think about slaying zombies which is silly, you must remember that a thrust to the heart or other organ will not stop them. Only a cleaved skull or decapitaion will stop them, hence the wide cutting edge:)

Also it should be known all too well that I do not mass produce any swords and that this is a one of a kind piece. Were someone to order something like it with a more tapered tip in mono steel or flaired out guard with fancy quillions then that too would be a one of a kind thing. It wasn't ordered as a euro with quillions on the guard.

I just LOVE the hybrid/crossover feel to it.... its so.... so... ODIN!!

I love it... its wicked... looks like a VERY strong cutter. There is something so utilitarian yet beautiful about it... its simple and looks VERY much like the sort of weapon a warrior might use over and over and over again. I love it... a +1 to Odin for great work.

Funny; back when I used to read comic books, I'd noticed, over the years, that Blade's sword would change depending on who was drawing him at the time. I liked the movie concept sword but understood, even then, that it just wasn't a practical sword. What you've got there, is pretty much how I thought the sword SHOULD have been.
Well done, John and OP- its going on my list of Odin swords I must have- hell, it might be FIRST.

Gosh darnit, John! You do nice work! And I second that sentiment. A stroll through Johns website is like looking at the Christmas toy catalog when you were a kid.
