I've got a question mostly for knife-nuts/nerds ... After discovering what is a smatchet, I came across this site : edmfknives.com/index.htmlAnyone here know about this seller ? Is their stuff good ? Next question ; anyone know about smatchets, and where I can get one ? (price ; 100 bucks and below, but I won't mind seeing a few higher-priced products ...). Thanks

Just by looking at what they offer, I'd avoid. But I've never heard anything about them, so they might be ok.
Search around for reviews.
When it comes to the smatchet, bladeforums.com is really the place to ask. You might even find one for sale, but good ones are actually pretty tough to find.

I actually had the 5th one from the top for a bit. The "APPLEGATE/FAIRBAIRN STYLE". These guys look like drop shippers, as I've seen these blades at different vendors. As far as the one I had, I wasn't impressed. It just felt.....well clunky. I got it because it reminded a little of a short lakonian, but with a twist. Having said that, I can't speak for all their products, and wouldn't mind if you happened to find out.

I just found something interesting ... After doing multiple research on the web, to find more than one smatchet seller (see my OP ), I came across this... Man, smatchets looks so manly, I heard holding one can cure a man's impotence. Or make him look like an axe serial murderer. Either way, it looks like part bowie knife, part battle-axe, all *$$-kickin' (HR, thanks alot for suggesting bladeforums, I completely forgot about that forum. Avery, do you know other vendors that sell those blades ? Just to compare prices... )

I'll see what I can dig up in the way of links. Till then, I know a fella who can forge one of these for ya to your specs. Same guy I get my axes from lately.

Hey Sebastian, Why don't you pass by the next arms fair at Longueuil? www.lca-canada.com/flyer.HTMThe next one is on the 14th. That's where I found my Fairbairn-Sykes fighting knife, and they might just have a good smatchet for sale. Federico

Sebastian, you might try a phonecall to see if they are still in business, being they haven't updated their website since 2003 and were having health problems then.
Good luck in your search, K

I will say this traditionalarcherybows.com is "archerout" on this forum. So far, he does have a fairly good reputation here, and if he keeps up may rival Brenno for "drool worthy" blades. I would send him a PM, if you are interested. I seem to remember a thread talking about the "smatchet" with some links not too long ago I could dig around for the link if you would like.

I wouldn't mind seeing that link, if you find it.
About ''Archer out'', I am starting to like their products. My only gripe is the weight (one and a half pound seems a lot for a 16'' weapon), but at that cost, for a rare type of reproduction, I don't mind.

That is a bit heavy for the size, but I think Smatchets are supposed to be heavy. I haven't used them myself, but seem to recall some acquaintances in my military days who carried them.

one and a half pounds for a 16 inch weapon sounds about right to me depending on the balance, you could also get him to drill holes to remove more weight without compromising integrity. Nyere weights 2 pounds and she is not that big a sword.

A pound and a half is certainly reasonable for a weapon of this type and dimensions. Heck, my Gen2 Norman Dagger is a bit shorter and weighs about the same.
I keep coming across Boker's Mini Smatchet and am considering making it my next daily-carry fixed blade; it's only a bit more that 4" long, but the shape makes it seem pretty efficient for...whatever. Only thing is the handle style and the whole bead-blasted, printed, 440C blade. The last bit I can overlook, but bead-blasted does little for me and I'm no fan of writing on my blades...
