My take on...

...the simple walking cane. And then some!
Lately I've been spending free time collecting materials for custom canes. It started with one I made and gifted to my grandfather. He loves it as did my grandmother(RIP) who urged me, on her deathbed, to continue making such items.
Here is that cane, pictured with a walking stick I also finished up alongside it. The wrap of jute cord at the junction between the head and haft has since been replaced with a Turk's head knot in suede lacing, which was then shellacked.
For the past few days, I've been toying with another idea. The cane came out so sturdy that it would make a more than formidable weapon in a self-defense scenario. My method of mounting the head (trade secret!) is surprisingly effective, so I decided to screw around with the possibilities.
Inspired by a 3-prong warhammer I've seen (though I forget WHERE...), as well as a scrapped axe-handle from when I rehafted my personal axe, I cobbled this together.
This is only the prototype, so it was a bit rushed. The wood for the grip wasn't as thick as I want, the holes aren't perfect (no drill press), and the wood is a bit rough in spots. The final product will be painted with desert tan engine-case paint, with truckbed liner applied to gripping surfaces. I'm also considering digging out the propane bottle-torch, and seeing is I can harden the spiked a little bit.
This will probably be tested to destruction.
Thoughts? Comments? Twinkies?
