Just curious as to how often people other than myself cut, and also if you have cut less and less the longer you have owned swords. How many swords do you own? Do you play favorites in your collection or do you try to use them evenly so they wont be jealous of each other? Do you retire your swords in a place of honor or do you outgrow them and sell them off to get something newer and better? Just curious...
-I cut a few times a week -I got my first sword about 6 months ago -I only have 2 so I try to use them evenly to figure out what will fit me best when I get my next one. -I dont have any plans as of yet to retire or sell either sword, but this may change in the future.

I try to cut once a week, when I can find a place. I own about 15 swords and continue to cut with the old and the new. I use all of them, tend to beat up on the older, less expensive ones.

I picked two or three times a week. Although it may just be a few bottles at a time. Occasionally I'll do a long session when I have the time, maybe every week or two depending on what else I have going on. I have twenty five or thirty swords. I have some I favor more than others, but I like to cut with most of them. I sometimes like to cut with the ones that aren't as easy to use just for kicks. I've not retired any swords and I haven't sold any as yet but that doesn't mean I won't.

I cut when I can on weekends but only in the summer when it isn't wet or cold, which is often and long. It works out to a dozen times a year on average.

I average about once a week though sometimes I do more or less. I handle my swords a lot more often then I cut with them. not a day goes by that I don't at least do some dry handling drills or just sit and hold one for a while.
I have about 10 swords and I definitely play favorites. the swords that are out of favor with me right now haven't seen action in a while but the swords that are comfy right now not only cut often but are handled and practiced with daily. I usually have a sword with in arm's reach no matter where I am in the house. I often carry one around with me durring my daily routine.
I am constantly searching for that one sword that really meet every desire, the one that fits me perfectly. I haven't found it yet but I do have some real good ones.
once I decide I'm done with a certain sword and ready to move on I sell it if it is in decent condition or I use it for polishing/sharpening/shaping practice if not. I have given a few swords away to good homes too. I try not to enlarge my collection much, I don't want a LOT of swords just the RIGHT swords. I have not yet retired a sword to a place of honor. swords aren't decorations. they will either get used to death for my further education or they will be sold/gifted to people who will enjoy them.

I cut 2-3 times a month. Sometimes I go a month without getting a chance to cut. Then sometimes I will cut a lot of bottles and some mats everyday for 2-3 days in a row.
I have, uhm... A LOT of swords. But I usually only cut with the ones that I am trying to "learn or re-learn" at the moment. It's not uncommon to cut with 3-4 swords in one session. But I mostly stick to about 10-12 swords in total. The ones that see the most use are:
AT-1315 AT-1557s (a pair of 'em) Albion Knight AT-1506 AT-1562 Custom AT Type XII AT Tactical Willowleaf

On Weekends, I am too exhausted after work to want to do anything but eat and fall in bed I am always trying to figure out which swords I own that are the best for cutting milk jugs, as I am still trying to better my score at Pickle Chips and Onion Rings. It looks like the often reviled Samurai 3000 and my United Katana and my United Long Katana are the best cutters I own ;D. I still have some new swords that have been sharpened and are awaiting their chances at milk jugs. I love my Tinker GSOW, but it is not one of my better milk jug cutters, probably my fault, and not the sword's It has been raining a lot here in Oklahoma (Very unusual) and the milk jugs are piling up ;D

Honestly right now its been once a month. While i technically own 8 swords. 3 wont arrive till mid november and mid to late december. The Masahiro Tora was given to a friends little brother. And the Takeo was given to the friend. While that still leaves me with 3 i just gave away another last week. So i'm left with a Cheness Shirasaya and an unmounted Shirakawa.
Though i still have the third one i gave away. Wont use it for two reasons. One i no longer actually consider it mine. Two its tsuka has a rather long crack in it, fixing it for him. While i could use the Cheness as i've mocked up a mounting for it. Panels and old ito wrapped don't trust the hardwood tsuka enough. Been waiting all month for my fittings from Artsfeng.
The Shirakawa is simply put dangerous. Took over a week to get the tsuka off. Which involved me splitting it along the seam. The nakago was literally cutting deeply into the wood. Carving a new Tsuka ho almost as i type this. That said can't exactly retire or play favorites until then. However once all the mountings are done. I plan to have a very cut heavy winter.

2-3 times a month. I only own 1 sword unless you count the machetes. Counting them I have 3 blades. I definatly play favorites and 98% of my bottle slicing is done with my 304s. Bottle cutting with my machetes are fun to, but they get to have fun out in the woods.

Lately it has been hard to find time for cutting. It's been over a month since my last session. You know, I miss it. Right now I have a few dozen bottles filled and ready to be slaughtered. Now I need the time to do it. I have 7 swords and I try to rotate them. In order of purchase: 1)Windlass Raptor 2)Hanwei Dark Sentinel 3)VA 303s Arming Sword 4)VA Kriegschwert 5)Windlass Type XIV 6)Atrim Type XVIa Bastard Sword 7)Gen2 Black Prince The one sword that gets more cutting time than any other would be my Atrim. It is actually harder to get a clean cut with than some of my other blades but it feels so nice in the hand. And that difficulty in getting clean cuts forces me to focus more on my edge alignment. And that is good. Lately I have been using the DS more to test out my sharpening skills. It's cutting pretty darn nice now Gen2 Black Prince gets the least cut time. I have yet to retire any blades and I have no intention of doing so in the near future. If my collection gets too big (I don't see how that can happen. Too many swords? Can't be!) I will look into selling or gifting.

Not enough!!!!! I would love to cut once a week but........ life is busy. If I have time to cut it will probably be rainy, or my joints will hurt so bad that it's a lost cause. But when I do get to cut, once a month or two months, I cut a lot. ;D I currently own 5 swords Cheness Tenchi DSA Ranger sword DSA Hundred Year War sword Cold Steel sword cane And a WWII Japanese officers sword, which is probably a 15Th century blade that was re hilted around 1900. To my knowledge there's no cutting vid of any tactical sword here on SBG. We have tons of vids with pretty much every common type of sword but no tactical sword vid. I'll do one myself as soon as I get my tactical custom. Until then I'd be very nice to see on from you.

I was, at my hight, cutting pretty much everyday... right now its been awhile... but I have a LOT of reviews on the back burner waiting to be done, and that will require a lot of cutting. I have a HUGE stockpile of bottles and jugs waiting... over 15 large garbage bags full. Gonna be a blast when its time... ;D On a side note... I figure all those pumpkins that have not sold after holloween should be extra cheep... like christmass decorations after christmass or easter candy or halloween candy after easter. Anyone got any good ideas on where to look in general for super cheep pumpkins?

Well if I had a PLACE to cut it would be as often a possible, as it stands only a couple times a year.
When I get a place of my own with a private backyard or at least a Greathall with vaulted ceilings I will make it a daily routine to either cut or train at the pell.

I'm fortunate to live in a house with a big garden so I try to cut or do pell training every day for half an hour.

If I get this new job I just interviewed for I will be purchasing my first sword. So at this point I only cut with my machetes and hatchet (tomahawk/camper style with the hammer on the back of the blade). The machetes haven't seen much use since I moved back to KY from FL in late '07 prior to that I was out cutting vines and brush wood once or twice a week every week with some reed bundle cutting thrown in. The hatchet only sees use a couple of times a year when I get to go camping.
I train with wasters and sword forms as close to daily as I can manage, I've also taken to training with wrist weights while using wasters so I have closer to "sword weight" at the ends of my arms on a regular basis. (I know, I know it's still no substitute for a real sword)
Once I can get into a place with a yard rather than the apt I live in now some of my first tasks will be the building of both a cutting stand (probably about sternum height to start with) and a tire pell so I can start more regular cutting, and pell work.

I used to have a yard and I'd cut quite often- this was years ago, and before I knew to cut bottles, I cut everything else I thought my sword could handle. I still have that sword too, my first 'real' sword; screw-on pommel et al. lol
Now, I don't have anywhere to do it so I generally don't; it is rare that I get the opportunity as I no longer have a yard but sometimes I'll sneak out and cut a few things just because...but definitely not nearly as much as I used to.

Not very often at all, but that's mostly because I don't have my own sword. I train in JSA so once in a while our instructors setup a cutting session, which is a blast. Although those have been put on indefinate postponement with the rise in shipping cost for tatami.
