Hello all, I'm somewhat new to the forums. I am a student of Yagyu Yamato Kai, and wanted to customize a wakizashi to complement my Japanese iaito. I purchased the Cheness wakizashi from Paul here at the SBG store and found the fittings on ebay. The ito I purchased from forum member Ichiban here on the SBG classifieds. He was also very helpful in providing advise and a useful tutorial. My thanks. Overall, I was pleased with the results. I look forward to my next project, perhaps a katana. Attachments:

Thank you. The wrap is not quite as tight as I would have liked, but I learned a few things and will hopefully do a better job next time. I would have posted more pics if I could figure out how to insert multiple photos and captions. I could use a tutorial on how to use this forum. Here is a shot of the ura side. I decided to use ony one menuki. Attachments:

If you did that well on your first wrap, I'm sure you will do loads better on your second. You have nothing to be ashamed of with this one anyway. It looks a helluva lot better than my first attempt.

Thanks for the comments. I actuall re-wrapped the tsuka a couple of times to get it to a point where I was happy with it. I'll try Ichiban's double sided tape trick on the next one. Here is a shot of the tsuba which is of unknown origin. It's just over 2" in diameter. I really like the size, it's much less obtrusive in my obi. I had to file the seppa down a bit to fit. I'm kind of liking the smooth edges as opposed to the usual crimps put in production seppa. Attachments:

I agree with you on the seppa. Tho I do like the rope and scallop edged ones. Yes, that is a VERY nice tsuba! I like.
May have to try the double sided tape too. Usually I put a thin layer of rubber cement down the tsuka on top and bottom and let it dry. Then it's still tacky and grips the ito but doesn't absorb into it. Works well for me. But lets face it, Ichi is the top of the heap and if he does it...

There seems to be many different ways to achieve the same goal. The rubber cement soundl like a good idea too. If swords and supplies were'nt so expensive, it would be fun to experiment.
