I have two kids at home, altough one is old enough not to worry about, little Elrika is about to make her first steps and some of my swords tips on display on the dinner room walls are getting dangerously near her little hands ! So... since my ceiling in this particular room is not that high hanging them higher is not really an option and it would anyway look a bit weird. I came up with an idea, or i copied it from somewhere ( i think Shooter Mike has a display like that ) hanging the swords handles down and blades up in a semi-circular set-up using those supposedly very good magnetic hangers ( www.by-the-sword.com/acatalog/Magnetic_Sword_Hanger_PC-100.html ). In this way i could put them high enough for her to be totally unable to get her hands on. At least for a year or two They say they can hold up to 100 pounds... i wonder also if using a magnetic holder rust would build up faster ? Any of you have any kind of experience with those things ? Are they worth the buy ? 20$ a piece is quite a hefty price ! Or have you any ideas how i could acheive a secure way of displaying those blades ? Thanks for your input !

Actually, if I'm remembering correctly, magnets are one of the things they use to reduce oxidation on naval vessels...
...Might be just a special Kind of magnet that does that, though...

I'm not sure where I picked up this belief, but I've always assumed that magnetizing a blade was bad for it somehow. Maybe it was only blades that have not undergone a heat treat... But assuming that magnetizing a blade is not bad for it: For 20 bucks, I think it would be worth keeping blood letting objects away from your kid's heads, but on the same note I think you could build one for cheaper. Glue this to a piece of wood: unitednuclear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=70_79&products_id=273and cover it with some electrical tape and I'd say that you'd be able to suspend a sword from it. AND you get a pack of 2 (in case one just isn't enough) But thats just me, I see something for sale and I start thinking of how I could build it and building it turns out to be more enjoyable. Given the lethal potential of a sharpened sword, I'd say 20 bucks is worth it if you just have 1 to hang, if you have half a dozen or more, I'd look into building my own. After all, would you spend 20 dollars to keep a gun outta your kid's hands?

Lets say that 5 of my swords cause a problem relative to their respective location. I dont want to enter a debate on to how much you can spend to assure your child's safety, we all know the answer. But Veldruk i like your idea, i'm sure that i can find some powerful magnets in my town hardware store. Thanks

Yar!
And just to be sure you should take your sword down there with you and see if the magnets will hold it up =P ... only joking of course.
But magnet strength will be an issue, the only thing worse then a blade hovering dangerously close to your family's heads is to have that same blade slide off the wall when you close a door.
That is why I added the bit about the piece of electrical tape, aka black tape. It's got a good rubber backing on it yet it's thin enough to allow the most magnetic flux to be applied to the sword.
