Just needs to look good, for Halloween's. Although a good helmet would also be nice.

Try googling costume shops...otherwise you're looking at a leather mock up (which will run a few hundred dollars at least) or a full on suit of armor (which will cost thousands).

Hmm, guess I'll go for some kind of Japanese style cloth and a good-ish helmet/mask.
EDIT - So, good helmets with face masks?

Well, you can get a full suit of Samurai armour for a mere grand. I think Hanwei makes a couple sets...

You guys stop the 'making fun of idea' track and get on 'help find cheap, but good looking helmet' track. I promise there's cookies at the end of the road.

"cheap" and "Good-looking" rarely go hand in hand. I don't even bother looking for "cheap" for most anything anymore. I'm always disappointed. Of course, it means I need to make everything I buy do double or triple or more duty. But that's ok.

Why does it have to be armor why not just go for a gi and hakama and maybe get the jacket... cannot remember what thats called at the moment... it'd be easier, cheaper, and more comfortable.

You could do a killer Samurai impression in just soft kit.
A helmet and mask might look out of place without sporting the full suit of armor.

Yeah, one of those straw hats would go with a samurai impression in soft kit and would look killer. You could even talk funny and tell everyone you are from a low budget B grade kung fu movie.
Have you thought about some of the stuff that they make from plastic barrels? It looks passable, and would be alot cheaper than leather.
