Looks cool. Straight out of the heat treatment without resurfacing. The lighter colour is the high carbon steel and shall i assume the balck is mild steel? Thats how I can tell if my quench has worked. The martensitic steel goes that clean grey colour. If it doesn't harden it stays black. I love how mild steel goes that Jet black after heating.

I think you nailed it Bren, I'm after the maker to give up the steel types, but he's keeping that close to the chest. Can't really blame'em.
