I'm assembling a mid-late 14th century harness and was thinking of getting those hourglass gauntlets by GDFB(AB0077 -- Gauntlets): www.casiberia.com/product_details.asp?id=AB0077Anybody has any hands-on experience with these they can comment? They seem to come in a one-size fits all? Would they fit, historically, on a Western-European harness of the 1360-70's? Thanks in advance for any input on these questions! Reflingar

Wow. That's a good price for that kind of detail. I was actually looking at a catalogue of CAS/Hanwei/Iberia "Battle Ready" armour and am quite impressed with the numbers. But I have no experience with them. 16ga should be plenty. You may not be happy with the weight, though.
As for fitting with a mid to late 14th century kit, I'd say Yes. But it's highly ornate. Is the rest of your gear as pretty to look at?

Thanks for the heads-up about matching these with the rest of the (in-very-slow-progress) harness...they would have to be in "suite" with something else wouldn't they? For the moment, the arms and spaulders are plain but with brass rivets and buckles... Thanks for your thoughts.

I have no experience with these gauntlets but I have bought other stuff from GDFB, My experience of them so far is that they produce reasonably priced but good quality armour. I have been very please with all the things I have bought from them.

I have a spangenhelm (for a 12th century kit) from them myself and like it quite a lot...apart the fact that it's a bit on the small side -for a size large- (or is my head bigger than average normal people? ;D). Now, to fit a mail coif under it: impossible. I'm thinking a mail aventail stitched to an arming coif...The gambeson I have -for same kit as spangenhelm- is tight too, but will get better once I "break it in"...Which is why I'm asking about those gauntlets, among other questions is: one size fits all?

sounds familiar, I am normally a medium fit but the gambeson I got was to small and I had to send it back and get a extra large and the helmet, I have is large. I have a similar problem to you It fits fine with an arming cap but I would like to be able to get a coif under it but don’t think it’ll fit.

Which is why I'm asking about those gauntlets, among other questions is: one size fits all? No. Never. And don't trust anyone or any item that claims otherwise.

You'll have to ask them. Or find a retailer with them in stock and find out.
