Im looking for a bare blade thats very stiff. I make my own hilts and can redo blades but I cant make them from scratch. Id like a bastard sword so as long as the tang is the right length, I can shorten the blade. My biggest thing is stiffness. I like a good stiff blade. maybe a blade in this style: But shorter, about 30 inches. But again, I can shorten the blade easily so blade length, as long as its as long or longer than I need isnt a big problem. I might make the guard somthing a bit like this: and a pommol like the Angus Trim Model 1541: a ring pommol. both the guard and pommol blakened and the grip wrapped in oxblood leather

I'm not really sure if this will help you....just something that you might be interested in. I see that Albion still indicates Del Tin "Orcrist" blades for sale on their Moat Sale site. www.albion-swords.com/moat.htmDel Tin "Orcrist" Blade BL: 32.5" W: 2.125" The blade has a strange configuration, but a while back Member Stevew64 did some fine work re-configuring one of these blades. He ended up with a beautiful sword with the following specs as shown on Page 3 towards the bottom of the page. /index.cgi?board=swordcustom&action=display&thread=1864&page=3 length overall: 37.5" Blade length: 30" Grip : 4" pommel: 3" Guard width: 7" weight: 3lb 1.5oz or 1.401 kg PoB: 3.75" from base of guard PoC: 19.25"" from base of guard Here is the link for the complete thread /index.cgi?board=swordcustom&action=display&thread=1864

I like ring pommels. I can make you a blade - stiff is no trouble - I do a lot of leafs too if you like the shape of glamdring's blade. But if you want a cheap blade you might have to settle for the straight blades available - the easiest supply of cheap blades these days are the replacement blades for the tinker range at Hanwei. I don't know how stiff they are though. I make my blades from 6mm stock and distal taper the second half about 50%, and they are quite stiff at those specs if you can find something like that.

Hey Brenno, try the Hanwei Forge line of replacement blades, They also have the line of Tinker Pearce replacement blades also. you can get them from just about any sword supplier on special order. The Tinker bastard sword blade that i made my hybrid from would cost 129-159 depending on where u look. I got mine cheaper, but that was a favor since i am doing some on-side-work for the site. Mine was the non-fullered though. I am sure the fullered is somewhat stiffer.

Sorry - not for me. There's no way I'd invest my work into a blade that I know naught of, nor submit it for people to trust their safety to. I won't stoop to using a cheap 3rd world blade supply. If I make the blade by my hand and know every detail of it's steel source, heat treatment, and creation - then I will put my name to it. I'm not claiming to be the best or anything - but I do my utter best, and pay attention and care to every detail - not many can claim that.
Call me a snob but nor do I trust Doctors, Mechanics, Dentists, Lawyers, Receptionists, ... Basically anyone who is paid to do a job that they don't want to do. If a person's heart is not in something they are not focussed and present while they are doing it, and that's when sloppy work happens. I do nearly all of my own mechanical work, and I sure as anything will make all my own blades. I do work with and trust Jeffrey Robinson cos I can see that he loves what he does and attends to the details.

You can't just go around and put your name on something and then have it fail and ruin your reputation. However, that comment is pretty unfair. Who says that all the of the above professions are professions where the professionnal doesn't want to do his job? Swordsmithing is as noble as any other job. And anyways, I've seen plenty of people losing everything because they refused to contact a lawyer when it was necessary, just because they were not to be trusted... Federico

Neither is much good for anything, but you cant help but smile when you push one down the stairs.... (sorry lawyers )

Well I appreciate this, mabe one will work And sorry Brendan, but im only 17, I dont have all that much money. I would make the blade myself as I have made several out of leaf springs from cars, but they tend to be too heavy for a blade this size and they are hard to use since the temper is so good.

Can you temper your blades, Igarretto? Then just anneal the leaf springs, that'll make them soft enough for working.
I did buy a tinker longsword replacement blade and made my own hilt. I turned out great. If you haven't seen it it's in the customization area.
