Hmm...looks a little light using 8oz leather; I have a leather vambrace/greave set made with dual layers of 10-12 oz leather - that's more suitable for combat if that's what you're after.
If it is done in steel, it would be a nice cuirass to have.

lgarretto, is it Hardened leather?
If it is, 8 oz should be plenty protection. 10oz or higher is only necessary if it's not hardened.

Correctamundo on the hardening aspect....courbouille or whatever its called is the wax hardened version- I hear the water hardened variant is the best kind to get if you can get it.

No. That's the name of water hardened leather. They didn't actually harden armour with wax. It's a lubricant, and wax hardened leather, while good against bludgeoning impacts is no better than water harened and is less useful than unhardened leather against cutting or piercing.
"cuirboulli" literally means: Cooked or boiled leather
Wax hardening involves baking. Completely different.

Well, there actually is a pretty nice starter leather armour set for $400. It's a very simple set and does not include gauntlets or helm (but it does have arms and legs). It's also designed so that you can take pieces off when you want to wear less armour. It's designed for SCA use. Not hardened. About 13 Oz leather.
Sorry, but I don't remember who makes it. tsafa might, it was at Pennsic and we were looking at it together, talking about it. If I'd been to Pennsic Last year, and they had it, then I'd be wearing it.

Is this armor for SCA combat? Renfairs? Decoration?
You may want to consider getting a side of leather and putting something together yourself. You can get about 16 sq feet of 12 oz low grade leather from Springfield Leather for about $90. Cut an rivet the pieces yourself and then dye. I suggest you make a pattern first out of cardboard. With 12 oz leather you don't kneed to harden unless you expect people to stab you with sharp swords.
You can get some ideas here: /index.cgi?board=armour&action=display&thread=3632

For approximately $600 US, that's not a bad deal for SCA combat. As long as it's hardened. If they don't do the hardening, you'll want to use Wax Hardening. Water Hardening will muck up all the tooling (which is where all the value is). You'll need to also get gauntlets, elbows and knees and a Real gorget, but that would look pretty and do the job nicely, if it's hardened.
