Gents, ladies, rogues and rascals, scamps and scholars:
I come not to praise Caeser but to ask a question. I'm a little embarrassed, because it's something I only just noticed.
I've been sort of watching the Hanwei Tinker line. Most of my attention has been on the VA Trim and Trim/Fletcher lines, but I've been watching the Hanwei Tinker line some too, reading, with enthusiasm, about the geometry and balance of the blades.
Today I noticed that the Hanwei Tinker Viking is peened.
Not the EMSHS, not the Bastard, not the Longsword.
Does anyone know why? Why, that is, the one and not the others?

Because Viking and Norman are made more for colectors and reenactors who appreciate historical accuracy and later period swords are with a nut because for their period there are manuals so a lot of people will use them for training and they will care less for historical accuracy. In short.

Hanwei claims that they peened the Vikink to satisfy historically accurate sword lovers. I honestly do not know why they did this, but I personally like peened swords more than dismountable ones because it gives me less to worry about.

I tend to like them peened if I know I'm not going to be dramatically customising them later or like hanwei I wanna swap my blades out but the recessed nut is fine.

Thanks, guys.
As a natural conservative I'm prone to prefer the peened versions. With that said, however, I have had no complaints against my VA AT303S. It simply seemed odd that there would be a variation between the Viking and other Tinker/Hanwei co-productions.

No complaints on my 303SCTU (303S, Custom Tuned, Upgraded); I've already put a new hilt on it and I'm considering a new grip, wrap and scabbard wrap with belts to finish it out.
I used to think that peened was the only way to go, but this new setup by VA/Atrim/CF with the upgrade capability is pretty cool and since there's no loss of performance, it works for me.

Yeh... the Hanwei Tinker line Viking and Norman swords are peened... and the Great Sword of War was supposed to be peened... but apparently something happened with that and it has the receased nut like the Bastard, Long, and EMSHS. I have some peened swords and some with the nut assembly... and I like both fine, as long as they are done well. I think I prefer the asthetics of my peened swords a bit more... but if I wanted to do a lot of custom stuff, a nut would be easier.

I definitely prefer the recessed nut system like the one on my Tinker GSOW. I like having the option of dismounting or tightening the grip without having to damage the pommel or tang. For me, the historical accuracy doesn't matter one bit. Performance and taking advantage of modern engineering is everything
