I have a custom bastard sword which I made out of an old Windlass sword (im only 17 and cant do much more, mom doesnt like it) I shortened the blade by about 6 inches, completely redid the grip, and redid the gaurd. I can give dimensions and performance review if needed

No. The pommol holds it all together. It's just very tight. I've tested it on a petrofied board and it held up fine

Hey, nice looker you got there...how'd you trim 6 inches off of the blade? Also, if you don't mind me asking, which Windlass sword did the blade come off of? The guard, grip and pommel look a lot like what you find on the Type XII they bill as a civilian longsword in the MRL catalog, but of course, a much shorter blade.
By the by, before pic is missing, in case you didn't know.

Wel, your right thats the sword. The civilian longsword type XII. I used a Dremel tool to cut out the basic shape. (and poured water on the blade nearly constantly to keep temper) Then filed it with a hand file to sharpen and smooth the edges. Then I retempered the whole thing to a rockwell of 56 so it wasnt quite so whippy.

Eh, I thought it a bit too long anyways so I like what you've done. I take it you took off the extra length from the tip upwards, yea? That you hand filed it is impressive, make sure you let that be known. Hand-worked anything is always more worthwhile to me than machined. How'd you re-temper it?
Also, that scabbard- did you trim that as well? It looks like standard Windlass fare, with a little flair added by the eye-catching criss-crossed strapping.

well I had my uncle re-temper the blade in his oven, and the scabbard well, windlass scabbards are crap so I just did the strapping myself but its just colored electricians tape. Im cheap and not good with leather so...
