I've wanted a (actually two, one for each hand) katar for a long time now, but I can't seem to find any reasonably priced production models. I found plenty of reasonably priced antiques, which is really weird But no production weapons that aren't stainless steel. Does anyone know of any carbon steel production katar under or around $100? Or, what do you think about stainless steel for this kind of blade, since it is not a long blade and is for puncturing and not slashing.

Yeah, that's the only one I've found that might be usable. I've heard some really bad things about Depeeka, but from the picture it looks like a single, solid piece so I don't know how they could mess something like that up.

Hmm, I was browsing KoA the other day, dunno how I missed that. I think when I get paid I'll order one of them and maybe post a little mini review here.
I know katar are supposed to be a piercing weapon but are there any sharpening services I could use to get an edge put on them if they do turn out to be alright quality?
Also, I know some places wont ship katar to NJ because they are illegal here (which is ridiculous because swords are just fine) but some will. For example budk wont ship here, but trueswords will. It doesn't mention any shipping restrictions on KoA, so do you think there would be any problem?

Yeah, it's not really worthwhile to try to buy, especially to ship, something that's illegal where you live. Especially weapons. Granted, I'm sure I own a few things that would be illegal here in ol' VA, but I bought them before I moved here and they don't leave my house, so no issue, legally. If your state says you can't have it...don't bother trying to get it. Unfortunate, but there it is. Some states are harder on these things than others, but I'd still play it safe. (move asap )

I used to play Ragnarok Online religiously, and my favourite class was the Assassin, whose signature weapon was a pair of Katar, so that's how I became a fan of this particular weapon. I'd love a katar, but it's technically considered a push dagger which is illegal in BC, Canada. There was one made by Himalaya Imports, a company better known for producing great Kukri, but I don't believe that they make it anymore. Click pic for link and scroll down. It says they're available for custom order (Which they would do gladly. Auntie Yangdu, the owner of the company, is very accomodating!) but don't currently have them up as a production. Also it lists the price as 250 USD. I'm not sure if that's for a pair or just for one. I think just one.

I forgot HI offered katar. Might be worth another email, 'cept for that whole law thing, and don't forget shipping.

I think I'll try a cheapo stainless steel from trueswords first and see if it gets here ok. I think it will because they do have items that they say won't ship to NJ but the katar is not one of them.
And thepepperskull, I used to play ragnarok online too. ;D
