I bought this quite a while back but I thought I'd share my thoughts. I posted it here too as it's reasonably sword related. Wow, just wow. Everything makes so much sense now! If this edition was released in the movies it would've done so much better. I blame bad editing for the lukewarm reception of the cinema release version I really recommend this to anyone who was disillusioned with the original release. I also like the fact that the (European) archers draw to the ear. It does my heart good to see proper medieval archery ;D The swords are some of the best I've seen in a pseudo historical Hollywood film. There's an extra fight scene too that's quite...interesting. As long as you switch off the WMA critic in your head it should be a pleasant experience.

I love Kingdom of Heaven so I will have to pick this up some time. Definately worth it mate . I was pleasantly surprised with this edition. Bad and good versions notwithstanding, some of the performances (Saladin and King Baldwin) blew me away.

Love my Kingdom of Heaven sword of Tristan. I'm actually not that fond of cruciforms, but the hemp-wrapped grip feels 'right' in the hand

Yeah, I have the extended version as well. It´s sooooo much better then the cinematic release. Still horribly inaccurate...but if you can turn the inner historian off, it´s a good watch.

The best part about it is how the Sybilla character makes a LOT more sense in the extended edition. Her actions as a person seem less "hollywood" and more "tortured mother". And the extra fight scene is good, if not particularly practical. It's a solid movie, I'd recommend it.

I've got to agree about making more sense, especially Sibilla's sort of fall into madness. It sort of came out of nowhere in the theatrical cut, but now it makes perfect sense (I won't say any more, to avoid spoilers).
Regarding KoH in general, not just the extended version, the film makers really seemed to try to incorporate modern WMA knowledge. Granted, the fights were still very theatrical, and they were using late medieval longsword techniques and terminology in the 12th century or so, but I appreciate that they were trying to show a more realistic depiction of western swordfighting than most movies.

Yup, that's the one. It's a completely different movie from the first edition. Ridley Scott himself pretty much says 'this is how it should've been in the first place'.

i like that movie. the guy that played saladin "ghasan massod" actually surprised me. i watch alot of his shows at home, hes a syrian acter and mostly (well...only) does soap opera type mini series shows. and he was always boring me as an old man trying to crack onto younger girls. but it seems he could go a long way if hollywood picks him up. lol, i didnt even k now he spoke english.

Of them all, I like that one and the King's sword best. On topic, I had heard that the director's cut was the way to go- I love this movie so I'll be picking that up sometime this weekend. Or on eBay.

Yeah, Kingdom of Heaven is one of my favorites. I get a kick out of the Guy vs Balian fight at the end, Balian remembers his lessons, "never take a low guard..." That scene, out of all the others should have been in the theatrical cut. The movie itself might be a bit preachy for some people, but I love it.
