My French friend Jean-Luc Ancelin visited Hong Kong today and after the sparring sessions, I prepared him 3 rolls of newspapers to test cut with. I lent him the Windlass 15th Century longsword and he worked through 1", 2" and 2.5" newspapers rolls beautifully.

The 15th century is my favorite sword from Windlass based on aesthetics.

It's also one of the best cutting longsword easily affordable as well.

I think he needs to work on his distancing, he doesn't seem to be hitting with the sweet spot of the blade and also he seems to be trying to power through the cuts when he would be better with finesse. Thanks for the vid

If he does something wrong, it really doesn't affect the result. Clean cuts through all targets so I'd say he did a good job. Got to try that with my Hanwei Tinker longsword. Where are the news?

I think this whole whippiness phobia thing is silly, like I said somewhere else, just because it is stiff doesn't mean it is good, swords need a certain amount of give in the cut.

LOL @ whippiness
I remember being concerned about that but as BW said, a certain amount of give is needed in the cut. A stiff sword does not cut as well.
