Hey guy's i'm kind new here and was just wondwering if any one out there has much experianc with Tuf gloth? I used to use Singer amchine oil and i've tried 3 in 1 both of wich evaporate real fast. I currently use moter oil wich is better and lasts longer but still needs doing at least every two weeks. I don't mind doing it but sometimes i'm away from home a little longer.
Cheers!

I have used tuff cloth, works well enough, I bought three, think I still got one around here. When it dried out I started re moistening it with mineral spirits and silicone spray. That worked well also. Tho these day I just spray the blade directly with silicone and wipe with a cloth. Fast and easy and works well. Cheap too.

Thanks RicWilly! I think i may invest in one and give it a try. When i read all the bs the bs about the product it says you can't wipe the invisible barrier the cloth provides off and the more you wipe it the stronger the barrier and protection. Would you say that's true?
Hell my spelling mistakes in that post are awful, sorry!

Nial, I'd say that it probably true it builds up with each application. However, I clean my blades pretty regularly (a required maintenance since I use them often and they get a bit gnarly) with Nevr-Dull so I imagine that would take off anything left.

Thanks Ricwilly! ! Is there any particular silicone spray and mineral spirits to use? How long does it last between fresh clean and wipe downs?
Cheers dark Knight! I think you can buy a product also by Sentry called Tuf glide to spray the cloth with once it dry's out can't you?

I use CRC heavy duty silicone spray, a couple bucks at Wal-Mart. Any mineral spirits will do. Really tho, all one needs is the silicone and nevr-dull. The silicone lasts me until I use my swords again. I usually use the nevr-dull first after long cutting sessions.

Well i believe there are pics somewhere on this forum of it (it is the sword of Conan's father) but i will take more to show off;D And i feel it's nice for the artists (for they are indeed artists) Brenno and Jeff Robinson AKA Bb to get a bit of a plug and the recognition they both so deserve. I am just waiting for some sun. Old Mr sunshine hides a lot here.

Nice! Bren told me that he had sold his Sword of Nial, but I wondered who got it. You must be some negotiator; that blade wasn't even for sale! ;D I'll look forward to the review of your FableBlade. I'll be reviewing mine pretty soon as well. -Slayer

Well Slayerofdarkness i woudn't say i was a great negotiator rather that fate looked kindly on me and fate it was/is. I have been a HUGE Conan the barbarian fan since i saw in in the early 80's and i expressed great interest in the sword(being sick of wallhangers)and Brenno always really wanted to make his a longsword so we did each other a favour and it worked out just fune.
Which Fable do you own? I look forward to your sword review here to.=D

Just curious though, how does one remove thin film created by silicone spray?

Lol, thanks Sparky. ;D I'll probably get to it next weekend, but maybe sooner. Nial- Fate indeed. I can't wait to see what Brenno does with his second Gen Sword of Nial. ;D I happen to be the lucky owner of the Sword of Garrigal and the Fantasy Tactical Wakizashi. Niether are as recent or as elaborate as your beauty, but I love 'em. ;D I look forward to your review! -Slayer

Sword of Garrigal though quite simple is a fine looking blade indeed and the fan tac wak is a letal looking little devil. I really liked that myself. I think Brendan did a cutting vid with that didn't he? Very cool!
Yeah Brenno has told and shown me what his kinda got in mind for hin next gen Nial and i think it'll be a beauty. I can't wait to see it.
I can't find any of that CRC silicone spray RicWilly suggested on Ebay does it matter what type i use? I mean is there anything ingredient wise i should avoid? Same with the mineral spirits?
Your knowledge and input is so appreciated guys.

If you have access to an auto parts store or even a hardware store you can probably find both the silicon spray and the mineral spirits there. Both are used for detailing autos as well. The silicon spray can be a different brand but usually 100% silicon is printed on the can and the mineral spirits can be found in 1 gallon containers for cheap. You can pay a lot more for the spirits in the Tar and Bug Remover guise..........that's all it is.

Most household silicone spray should work. One thing that all silicone spray user (I am one of them) is that once sprayed and wiped dry, a thin layer of silica coats the blade. However, if you are contemplating on removing the thin layer for purpose of polishing, that is going to suck because it is very difficult to remove the silica layer except using metal polish. At this point, I am not sure what would be the ideal metal polish to remove silicone spray from blade. Since Ric uses Nevr-dull, I am sure it works but I am concern that Nevr-dull is quite abrasive. The less abrasives one are Flitz, metal-glo and Noxon (least abrasive) but I don't know if they are strong enough to remove the silica layer (probably they do but it might need more elbow grease than Nevr-dull).
Oh yes another thing. Make sure the blade is completely dry before applying silicone spray. That could be achieve by using rubbing alcohol or denatured alcohol and wait for it to dry. Don't worry it dries real fast.
Hope that helps!

Good point, Sicheah. Another to keep in mind when listening to any maintience advice I give is that I don't pay much attention to how my blades look besides keeping rust off them. They get pretty gnarly from the abuse I give em so appearance isn't really my concern. A question, would mineral spirits achieve the same purpose as the alcohol you mentioned, Sicheah?
