Yeah that's the one I got. I like it a lot. I'm just not sure how to finish it. I'd like to do it in a fashion that would not require cutting the shoulders down into the blade. (like Tom did) I'd like to keep the blade proportions the way they are, and I don't want to deal with the harmonics. So that would really require not cutting off the threaded portion of the tang. I'm thinking of slotting the pommel so it would fit over the rectangular section of the tang but then narrow so only the threaded portion would come through the end. That's what I would peen. That's basically how I've done it before except for the thin section being threaded. That might actually be nice though, because then you can assemble the sword as you work on it to check handling and stats. So I'm still kind of up in the air on how to do this.

Well, I cut of the threaded part because I wasn't sure if it was welded on or not. The tang was longenough anyway so I didn't even have to cut down the shoulders. If you really don't want to do that, then grind of the threads and peen it that way. But I warn you, it is VERY hard to make a pommel slot like that. At least without special tools. I had just files and I slotted the pommel right through. The hole was rectangular and had the same size all the way through. Only the last 3mm were at angle as were the "shoulders" of the tang where the pommel fitted over it at the end. It's hard to describe, so here's a pic: Do you get what I mean? Do you plan on using the compression method or will you wedge guard and pommel in place before you put on the handle? That's how Albion does it and that's how I did it, too. Worked very well, but was difficult. I had to make a second guard because I screwed up the first one. The slot was too big. Now, I'd check how much room there is on the tang. Maybe you can cut of the tang without needing to cut the blades shoulders. It's not very likely to happen, but it's worth a check. If it doesn't work I'd try out to cut the blades shoulders. I've done it, it's not that hard. You just need to go slowly so the metal doesn't get too hot. A real challenge is to get the shoulders straight. I cheated and put leather between shoulders and guard. Now there's no visible gab between guard and blade because the leather gets compressed and closes the gab even if the blade's shoulders aren't completely straight. Do you want to make your own pommel and guard or do you use already finished pieces like Tom did? I reckon it's very hard to get a tight fit if the pommel and guard aren't made for exactly your sword. Especially if the old pommel uses a nut. Then you can forget about peening it without filling up the hole. Lot's of suggestions, I know and probably not easy to understand. If you have questions, please ask. That's why this forum exists.

I'm working on a Deltin blade right now where i did manage to make a pommel with the tapering slot like that. Your dead on though, it was really hard. I broke like five or six drill bits. The worst part was when I broke one off wedged inside the pommel. That took hours to get it out. The whole sword is still very much a work in progress. I'm planning on making a thread on here for it when it is finished like you did but I may do it sooner. Ideally I'm planning on mimicking Albion's style of construction as well as filling everything in with epoxy. In regards to the EMSHS, I'm just worried that the threaded section isn't thick enough to peen. Then again that's all that would otherwise hold the sword together. It's going to be a while before I finish this sword (I'd like to finish the Deltin first) but Here's my current thoughts on the pommel. If I manage to make the pommel with tapered tang-slot then I think I'll use a nut disguised as a peening block. (I think Arms and Armour does this) Then I'll peen over the nut like you would a peening block. I might just peen it strait on the pommel though, I'm not quite sure. I'm probably not going to finish this until Christmas break though.
