Hello, cool crafty people. I have a Bugei wave katana that I am very proud of, however its saya leaves something to be desired. The blade sits fairly loose in it and if it is tilted slightly at all it will slide out. I have read that traditional saya have buffalo horn at the throat to help snug the blade inside. How hard would it be to modify an existing saya to include this piece? How much should I be looking to spend? I found a website that will build a new saya traditionally fitted and laquered for approximately 300$ is that a "fair" price? Seems a bit steep to me.

The buffalo horn prevents the koiguchi from cracking, but doesn't help the fit. If you just want a snug fit, wood glue and wood shims are the best. It's done in a quick and easy operation. If you need more info, I'll post a small tutorial.

That would be great. I think I understand what you're saying, but don't want to mess anything up

OK, I'll take some pics later and tell how I do it. Others may do it different, but it works.
