I am wondering where I could find a good quality dagger. I have in mind something with a simple, crusiform european design. Has anyone had any particularly good experiences with any company (s)? I am interested in anything at or under the 100 USD mark.
Thanks for the help

I find the best dagger bang for your buck is actually a Windlass. They're generally well made and not too heavy compared to some manufactor's daggers. Some pics: i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn46/remlingp/Picture002.jpgi301.photobucket.com/albums/nn46/remlingp/DaggerandLongknife.jpgAll three in the first pic are Windlass and the top one in the 2nd pic is also a Windlass. There are at least four more Windlass in the house somewhere. I have an older wire wrapped grip that matches my wire wrapped 1520, a new bergundy wrapped (by Jonathan Sarge) to match my 1503, a loose brown leather wrap to match my 1417 (same loose wrap) and the bottom of the second pic to match my recently blackened 1555. Still need something to match my 1557 but that will prove a little difficult as it's the 1557 Mike used for his review, brass pommel with steel guard.

If you're willing to save up a bit more to get a heirloom-quality piece, check out John Lundemo's Odinblades: www.odinblades.com/Pages/Knifepage.htmlI've been talking to John a bit lately, and he can do some unbelievably awesome stuff for quite a reasonable price. ;D I can't exactly say anything specific on prices, but you'd most likely be able to stay within SBG's general pricerange. *EDIT* That's not to say that the Windlass knives and daggers aren't worth getting, by any means. I don't want to come off as a 'price-snob', as I tend to buy the lowest priced example of what I'm looking for myself. But recently I've been a little bit more aware of just how much better custom blades are, and Odinblades in particular. With the rock-bottom prices Lundemo's offering right now, I don't think that you can go wrong with one of his offerings. ;D Just a thought, but I think that you would be far happier with an Odin than even a whole collection of Windlass'. -Slayer

I found this in the myArmoury.com classifieds: www.myarmoury.com/talk/viewtopic.php?t=17725This is actually a great deal on a excellent dagger from Tod's Stuff. He makes awesome ballock daggers. Though the obvious phallic shape will make some people blush, keep in mind they were supposed to look like this. Alot of cheaper manufacturers tone it down a little bit, but this dagger is 'ballocks out' for sure. If he drops it to $100, I'll take it myself. It's worth what he is asking, but I have some budget items this month that have to be taken care of.

Windlasses would be ideal and great for personal customisation, and threaded stuff doesnt mean much when they are that short. I would buy a bunch but us aussies cant import daggers because ....... because ........... I dont know we just cant ............. apparently criminals shop alot on popular replicas sites ............ I though they just used stuff from kitchen drawers and garages :/

I would recommend you stay away from the Windlass "Sword Hilted Dagger". The pommel is too heavy for the blade, and the whole thing wants to go tip skyward regardless of how you hold it.

Tinker and Lundemo make better daggers and knives than what you'd see at Windlass, but they'll also cost more. Hey, unless it is an auction, you're gonna get what you pay for.
For my part, I've decided that if I go for the cheap weapons, I can expect them to perform thusly...every now and again there's a diamond in the rough but we all know that's the exception, not the norm.
I think I'm about done with Windlass, now.

Thanks for the input everyone. I think I am now leaning towards having one custom made by one of the mentioned makers. Does anyone know what something like this would cost? I don't have much cash on hand, and may need to do some selling.

I can't give any exact prices, but I think that Lundemo could craft you a fantastic dagger for around the $300 pricerange. Personally, I think that you'll get more 'bang for your buck' out of an Odinblade than any other custom sword or dagger, but that's just my $0.02. Take a look at www.Odinblades.com/Pages/knifepage.html. -Slayer EDIT: Link fixed

Arms and Armor seem to do alot of custom daggers ........ they do a nice rondel, and tods stuff to beautifull daggers ......... if putting money to a dagger didnt leave me short on a sword I'd do it more often,

You could also try www.atar.com, he has stuff up for sale all the time and he is one of the premier knife makers in both pattern-welded and monosteel. Plus in terms of price I have never seen anyone match his quality or his prices. This one is in stock at the above website for $235 USD; So much I want, so much I can't afford, bah!
