I recently HT'd this sword, I don't ever remember seeing a shape like it so I am looking for some suggestions on how to hilt it up.

I saw pictures of indian swords with a very, very similar blade (something hard to forget, considering the unusual shape ...). Unfortunately, I can't remember nor find the websites where I saw what I am refering to ... However, I remember the mountings were very similar to those on a Talwar, another type of indian sword. Here's the wikipedia article ; en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TalwarNot first-grade information, but I hope it will help you out.

Uhhh, How? The recurve kind of negates the fact that it might look like a katana in any way. I won't be hilting it like a japanese blade.

Looks like a Yatagan to me (probably because that's the only type of recurved sword I know of). You could give it a persian style hilt.

I'd make a baskety yatlass. Make a vertical S guard - top over the blade, bottom back under your hand, and add some basket action to the side.

Tis a YAT! woohoo! Go Sam! As to a handle, I humbly put forward this; Can't go past a traditional handle for such a traditionally shaped blade, my favourite from you so far ;D

That fourth Jody Samson one is the bee's knees. Wow.
I'd like to see this as Ardeth Bay's yatagan from The Mummy Returns. It's got an ivory-ish handle with an "Egyptian" flair to it. I've always wanted that sword since I saw that movie.

Something like this, but a bit more ornateness to that handle. www.yourprops.com/view_item.php?movie_prop=18542Like at the "pommel" end of the hilt, perhaps the "beak" portion is actually made to look like an Egyptian falcon head, with the wedjat eye and such.. That'd be cool if it wasn't too blatant and guady.

It was that movie that sparked my interest in yatagan, one day I shall own one!

I'm just echoing the thoughts of those above, but do it up like the above people said. A bit of a historical. Possibly make the pommel into a hawk's head? the bill could be a hook the really hold in your hand, then do a bit of carving on the handle like wings that would both be ornate and give you good grip.

I've always thought of it as a shotel, myself. Though it's probably some kind of shotel/yathagan hybrid if you want to get all technical.

Probably won't be mounting it like a yataghan, sorry Think I will go fantasy with it, liked the ideas on other forums some people said it looked a little LOTR-y, and it's not a leafblade

I think it would look good being kinda like a cutlass. Here is a drawing. I kinda put too much curve in the blade, but you get the idea.
